Principal - GIS

John Holland is seeking an experienced GIS Practitioner to lead and coordinate the GIS Function with the growing 'Technology, Engineering and Knowledge Group'. The role will provide strategy and technical solutions to both pre-contract and delivery phase projects, as well as developing technical capabilities and expertise of GIS Staff. In addition, the appointed person will establish and implement workflows and procedures consistent with the TEK business strategy, as well as objectives of the respective business unit. Managing and mentoring a number of technical specialists or subconsultants will be expected, in addition to advocating and championing the TEK group and its key strategic objectives.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Plan & control the delivery of GIS for pre-contract and delivery phase projects.
  • Acts as an authority & provide technical guidance on the best practice of GIS Application.
  • Manage the implementation of GIS Workflows and processes for the business unit, ensuring continous improvement and alignment with the industry best practice.
  • Act as a member of the TEK Principals forum and chair the forum on a rotational basis.
  • Develop and deliver on a portfolio strategy and business plan for GIS Practitioners, focused on people, process and technology developments.
  • Develop high value business cases including the documentation of processes, applicability and value proposition to the business unit and wider business.
  • Manage GIS Solutions portfolio where nominated as an SME.
  • Develop and implement training curriculums to support GIS Technology, providing learning support through coaching.
  • Demonstrate people management by assisting BU's with resourcing, scoping and reliable selection of GIS solutions.
  • Provide strong GIS Leadership and advice to the BU through coordination with Project Directors, Business Development Managers and Pre-contract Managers.

There will be key performance indicators specifically analysing engagement, capability (No of people trained etc.) and Technology/Innovation projects (Introduction and support for new technologies within JHG).

Experience/Qualifications required:

  • Experience in managing/implementing GIS solutions on large multidisciplinary engineering projects.
  • Working knowledge of Design and Construction practice, processes and procedures.
  • Experience with the following solutions: ESRI Suite, GeoCortex, SafeFME, Autodesk and Bentley Design.
  • Specialist experience in the following SQL Server: Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle RDBMS, ArcGIS for server and ArcSDE Geodatabase servers.
  • Working knowledge of JHG Systems including IMS, PPW and PCR.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 19650, PAS1192-2:2013, BS1192:2007 and other relevant DE Standards.
  • Tertiary degree (Bachelor level) in Built Environment, Survey, Mapping, GIS, Science, IT.
  • Chartership and or professional registration. (E.g. MIEAUST)
  • 15+ Years in the engineering consulting or construction industry, including with a minimum of 5 years GIS management experience on large multidiscipline and 5 years at a senior management level.
  • Exposure to major, multidiscipline E&C Delivery.
  • Exposure to working with Pre-Contracts on multiple, concurrent tenders.
  • Significant D&C experience on projects with a greater value than $1 BN.
