About the Opportunity

We are currently seeking an experienced Fire Engineer to join us on a major infrastructure project, based in Melbourne. The main focus of this role will be to review designs and offer comment on the compliance, operability and constructability elements of a complex tunnel related fire protection system, including linear heat detection, smoke detection, deluge systems, smoke control and all ancillary systems.

The successful candidate must be able to relate the engineering functionality and compliance of these systems into an operational context and communicate this to the relevant stakeholders in order to navigate and resolve any internal and external concerns.


Main Duties of the Position

  • The review of and comment on design of active fire protection systems including specifications, datasheets, and P&ID’s
  • To ensure all client documentation is reviewed for acceptability and updated as agreed with the client and Fire Brigade
  • Demonstrate and document (using design documentation provided by project design team) the operating capacity of the various fire related subsystems meet the requirement of the specification individually and as a single system
  • Provides technical and operational guidance to the multi-disciplined teams
  • Coordinates with the project designer (mechanical and hydraulic lead at a minimum) to ensure that package design meets specification and expectation
  • Perform or provide oversight for risk management processes that might include Hazop, Hazardous Area Classifications or other risk based systems as pertinent to the fire and life safety systems under review
  • Provides positive but assertive leadership on Fire matters to the internal and external teams
  • The role may evolve to include procurement, construction and completions elements


Position Requirements

  • 10+ years’ experience in a fire-systems engineering role working on complex integrated technology and engineered systems
  • Engineering degree would be of benefit
  • Operational fire brigade experience would be of benefit
  • Good interpersonal skills providing effective technical and systems related leadership within a multi-disciplined team
  • Experience in Validation and Verification processes and systems
