About the Role / Are you up for the challenge?

 

As a Project Engineer on the Inland Rail Beveridge to Albury Tranche 2 Project, you will play a crucial role in managing and overseeing civil and structural scope at one or more of the eight sites (Benalla, Euroa, Seymour, Tallarook, Hamilton, Short, Marchbanks and Wandong). Your expertise and guidance will contribute to the successful delivery of our projects, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to coordinate and oversee every aspect of the project, from start to finish.

The role will initially be based at out main office in Docklands, with the requirement to the mobilise to the prospective site when construction works commence late 2024 / early 2025.

 

Project Description

 

Inland Rail is transforming how goods are moved around Australia, connecting Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This 1,700km fast freight backbone will complete our national freight network – better connecting producers to markets and creating new opportunities for regional businesses, industries and communities. 
The Beveridge to Albury (B2A) project is the Victorian portion of the program undertaken along approximately 305 kms of existing northeast rail corridor between Beveridge and Albury. B2A is staged in two tranches. Tranche 1 includes enhancement works across four sites and corridor wide works. 
Tranche 2 works will be delivered by John Holland and includes adjustment of track alignments, the provision of new road overbridges and station modifications to enable the safe operation of double-stack freight trains across eight B2A project sites between Wandong and Benalla.

 

Responsibilities of the role include / What you will do;

 

Overall responsibility for the role on this high-profile major project includes:

  • Coordinate and administer construction engineering activities to ensure that projects are implemented in accordance with plans, designs and specifications
  • Assist with the preparation of site construction budgets and reports
  • Monitor construction progress for adherence to programme and report to the Site Manger or Project Manager
  • Interpret designs for implementation in construction projects
  • Contribute to improvements to existing designs
  • Arrange and oversee the letting of tenders
  • Demonstrate financial management skills and commercial acumen when making decisions 
  • Assign work and assist with reviews for accuracy and adherence to required standards
  • Execute working knowledge of contractual and legislation relevant to the project
  • Undertake quantitative and qualitative safety, environment and quality risk assessment to ensure acceptable quality of structures and finishes 
  • Analyse and use document and record management, progress and project performance reporting compliance reporting 
  • Demonstrate sound people management skills by managing work and performance of subcontractors to achieve outcomes
  • Utilise effective time management skills including sequencing of work of own and resource time management
  • Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems, reporting and procedures
     

To be successful in this key role, you must have / What we are looking for;

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Science, Building Construction or equivalent
  • Diploma of Project Management in Engineering, Science, Building, Construction or equivalent 
  • Demonstrated relevant engineering experience within the construction industry
  • Successfully delivered projects over $10 M in value
  • Project Engineer and operational experience
  • Knowledge of project management structure, plans, specification, standards and implications for project accountabilities
  • Understanding of the Project Management Plan, Construction Management Plan, Design Management Plan, Quality Management Plan, Safety Management Plan and Environmental Management Plan
