North Western Program Alliance (NWPA) consists of three Alliance partners – John Holland, KBR and MTM and the client (LXRP), working together as one team to achieve shared goals.

We currently have opportunities available on Projects in delivery and development, based in Melbourne’s north-west. We are looking to speak with experienced Infrastructure Project Engineers (Civil/Structures/Stations) to join the Alliance in early 2022.

About the Role

Whilst you will be initially based on the North Western Program Alliance, this is a long-term career opportunity with John Holland.


As a Project Engineer, you will coordinate on-site construction engineering functions for the Project, to achieve time and budget objectives and provide efficient support for construction activities.


Depending on the Project, some responsibilities may include procurement of concrete above/below ground, lift planning, scheduling, forecasting, reporting and being the interface between clients/consultants/suppliers. You may be involved with quality, completions and work closures, as well as supporting team management of Graduates and Cadets.

Responsibilities of the role include;

•    Coordinate and administer construction engineering activities to ensure that projects are implemented in accordance with plans, designs and specifications
•    Assist with the preparation of site construction budgets and reports
•    Monitor construction progress for adherence to programme and report to the Site Manger or Project Manager
•    Interpret designs for implementation in construction projects
•    Contribute to improvements to existing designs
•    Arrange and oversee the letting of tenders
•    Assign work and assist with reviews for accuracy and adherence to required standards
•    Execute working knowledge of contractual and legislation relevant to the project
•    Undertake quantitative and qualitative safety, environment and quality risk assessment to ensure acceptable quality of structures and finishes 
•    Analyse and use document and record management, progress and project performance reporting compliance reporting 
•    Demonstrate sound people management skills by managing work and performance of subcontractors to achieve outcomes
•    Utilise effective time management skills including sequencing of work of own and resource time management
•    Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems, reporting and procedures

To be successful in this role, you will have;

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, Building Construction or equivalent
•    More than 5 years’ post graduate engineering experience with 3+ years site based preferred
•    Experience working on $100M+ Major rail or infrastructure projects preferred 
•    Knowledge of project management structure, plans, specification, standards and implications for project accountabilities
•    Understanding of the Project Design Management Plan, Quality Management Plan. Safety Management Plan and Environmental Management Plan
•    Pre-contracts knowledge in relation to design, planning and legislative requirements
•    Excellent client relationship and stakeholder management
•    Performance management experience of subcontractors
•    Effective time management skills
•    Strong written and verbal skills coupled with professional personal presentation
•    You need to be able to meet any requirements which are necessary to safely perform your role (e.g. receiving a COVID-19 vaccination pursuant to a relevant health order or by clients, or as otherwise required)
