We are currently looking for an experienced Senior or Project Traffic Engineer to join us, based on our Preston project - delivering the removal of four level crossings, new-build 2km rail bridge and two new stations at Preston and Bell. 

About the Role

Whilst you will be initially based on the North Western Program Alliance on the Preston project, this is a long-term career opportunity with John Holland.


As Traffic Engineer you will provide onsite traffic engineering services and technical support to ensure the planning, implementation and maintenance of traffic management is carried out accordingly within specified guidelines. 

Responsibilities of the role include;

•    Ensure the implementation of traffic management is carried out within specifications, applicable legislation, approvals and standards
•    Conduct and administer job planning and programming with minimal disruption to the surrounding road network for works that may include short range and intermediate activities for construction projects
•    Exercise professional judgement in resolving traffic management issues, i.e. local council, local residents, road users, road authorities, etc.
•    Demonstrate financial management skills including demonstrated behaviour in reducing costs and meeting budgets
•    Implement and communicate risk controls and actions involved in the delivery and implementation of the works to be undertaken from a traffic prospective
•    Demonstrate people management skills by being able to manage work and performance of teams and subcontractors to achieve project outcomes
•    Develop traffic management plans for all project work phases ensuring the plans are in accordance with the relevant Acts, Standards and Guidelines.
•    Provide technical traffic engineering guidance to the project staff to endure aims and objectives are effectively and economically achieved.
•    Monitor temporary traffic management implementations to ensure they are implemented in accordance to approved traffic management plans and arrange corrections or modifications where necessary.
•    Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems, reporting and procedures

To be successful in this role, you will have;

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, Building Construction, Construction Management or equivalent
•    Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in traffic engineering
•    Minimum 1 year experience on road or rail construction projects.
•    Knowledge of traffic management, plans, specifications, standards and implications for project accountabilities.
•    Skill in use of document and record management, progress and project performance reporting compliance and procedures  
•    You need to be able to meet any requirements which are necessary to safely perform your role (e.g. receiving a COVID-19 vaccination pursuant to a relevant health order or by clients, or as otherwise required)
