An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Rail Occupation Manager to join the John Holland business in Melbourne.

Responsible for providing effective coordination and management of Rail Occupations and associated staging works for Rail delivery and maintenance projects. 

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Directly manage Occupation Coordinators to deliver project scope
  • Adherence to all legislative and regulatory requirements, and the relevant RTO Safety management Systems
  • Assist in the management of the Works Readiness process and ensure that T minus Stage Gates are achieved for each RTO, including the completion of Works Readiness Checklists and submit them on or ahead of time for each RTO
  • Ensuring the timely submission of Occupations within as required (or delegation thereof)
  • Coordinate with each RTO Network Safety and Operations teams to ensure that all Occupations and their subsequent limits are correctly represented and submitted
  • Assist in the identification, arrangement, management of Occupation Critical Resources required within each Occupation
  • Convene and chair Occupation Planning Meetings & Peer Review Meetings
  • Evaluate work activities and make recommendations in respect to the application of methodologies and possible efficiencies
  • Manage and contribute to the preparation and publishing of key Occupation documentation such as Works Guides and HV Isolation Plans
  • Plan and / or attend Occupation coordination meetings across all Project Packages to identify potential synergies


To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • ­3 - 5+ years’ experience on a similar rail infrastructure or rail tunnelling project in a Possession or Occupation role
  • ­3 - 5+ years’ of managing concurrent Occupations and adjacent line working
  • Proven Occupations experience within rail projects exceeding $1b in value
  • Sound knowledge and connections of the existing Occupations within Rail Projects Victoria portfolio and ability to manage stakeholders
  • Experience chairing and coordinating Occupation briefings and meetings exceeding 60 staff
  • Ability to read and interpret an IPTOP for Occupation Planning and implementation
  • Sound knowledge of O Circulars and Safeworking methods in Victoria
  • Understanding of bus replacement services and customer impacts across each RTO
