We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Communications & Stakeholder Engagement Advisor to join us, based in the outer south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

About the Role

Whilst you will be initially based on the North Western Program Alliance, this is a long-term career opportunity with John Holland.


As a Senior Communications & Stakeholder Engagement Advisor, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a communications and stakeholder engagement program and support the Project engagement objectives and Management Plan. Through doing so, you will project a strong and positive image of the Project to stakeholders and the community. As part of the Communications team, you will manage stakeholder and community issues and provide advice to the Project team on any risks or opportunities, contributing to a successful project delivery.

Responsibilities of the role include;

•    Develop and implement the Communications & Stakeholder Engagement Management Plan for the project including developing and implementing relevant sub-plans, processes and procedures, ensuring they are updated as required.
•    Plan and manage contact with external stakeholders, the community and local traders in a way that enhances the reputation of the Project Owner, NWPA, John Holland and organisation partners.
•    Identify stakeholder and community issues and develop strategies to minimise impacts.
•    Ensure Project Owner expectations are fully understood and develop good working relationships with counterparts.
•    Develop good working relationships with the project construction team/s to ensure activities are undertaken strategically, minimising impact and disruption to stakeholders and the community.
•    Provide advice and assistance to the project construction team/s on Project’s communication requirements and timing so they are understood.
•    Arrange site visits and ensure all visitors to the project have appropriate PPE and undergo relevant site inductions.
•    Co-ordinate (where required) regular stakeholder and community meetings as required, including Stakeholder Liaison Group and/or Community/Trader/Schools Reference Groups.
•    Develop a range of project specific forums for stakeholders and the community including community forums, pop up information sessions etc.
•    Assist in the identification, development and management of promotional opportunities for the project (i.e. media, presentations, milestones etc).
•    Write a range of high-quality communication materials, including notifications, newsletters, advertising, social media posts and formal correspondence as well as co-ordinate residential door-knocks as appropriate.
•    Manage communication collateral and responses to all project related communications matters including via phone, email, website and social media in line with agreed Project Owner framework.
•    Communicate stakeholder and community awareness and risk minimisation programs across the Project through inductions and toolbox presentations.
•    Contribute to the identification of construction related risks and opportunities with regard to stakeholders, the community and local traders and develop mitigation strategies.
•    Maintain registers and ensure community and stakeholder activities are recorded appropriately and in line with agreed Project Owner framework.
•    Develop strategies to achieve best possible results with project KRA, KPIs and ISCA rating.
•    Draft reports to meet project reporting cycles.
•    Assist with the professional development of Stakeholder & Community Relations Advisors.
•    Participate and assist with activities undertaken by the wider NWPA and John Holland communications team as appropriate.
•    Perform all tasks in accordance with the Alliance policies, processes, systems, report and procedures

To be successful in this role, you will have;

•    Tertiary Degree (Bachelor level) or certificate in a discipline relevant to function area e.g. Public Relations, Journalism, Stakeholder Management or Marketing
•    More than 5 years’ experience in communications & stakeholder engagement in the construction industry preferably for a major infrastructure project
•    On-the-ground experience working for a head contractor preferably in Infrastructure, Civil or Rail 
•    More than 8 years’ multi-discipline experience, e.g. Communications, Stakeholder Relations
•    Experience in leading project or specialist function activities
•    The ability to work on-site in the outer south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne
