About the Project

The Linewide Alliance, comprising John Holland, Alstom, RATP Dev, KBR and WSP, are excited to be delivering the transformative Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East Linewide package.

When SRL opens, the new rail services for passengers will also be delivered by, a venture between RATP Dev and John Holland to operate and maintain the franchise for 15 years from 2035, to be known as TransitLinx.

The Alliance will deliver a world-class, service-proven driverless metro system that sets new benchmarks for comfort, safety, and reliability for Melbourne.

SRL is a transport and urban planning project that will deliver world-class public transport, reduce travel times, and support the delivery of more homes and housing.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer – Bulk Earthworks and Ground Improvement to join the team.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the design, planning, and execution of bulk earthworks projects including cut to fill
  • Collaborate with project managers, clients, and stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met
  • Coordinate earthworks production activities, including surveying, excavation, haulage, and compaction operations
  • Manage and optimise earthmoving equipment utilisation, ensuring production targets are achieved efficiently
  • Monitor and control site earthwork operations, including cut and fill volumes, material balance, and waste minimisation, material tracking
  • Engagement with the environmental team to consult with external authorities including EPA
  • Ensure compliance with geotechnical specifications, soil management plans, and environmental regulations during bulk earthworks production
  • Develop and implement earthworks methodologies to improve production rates and minimize delays
  • Conduct regular inspections and quality checks to ensure the accuracy of earthworks alignments, levels, and compaction standards
  • Supervise subcontractors and direct labour teams involved in earthworks production, ensuring adherence to safety and quality protocols
  • Manage stockpiles and coordinate material movement across the site for efficient use and storage
  • Prepare and maintain daily and weekly production reports, including tracking progress against key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Identify and mitigate risks specific to earthworks operations, including adverse weather impacts or unforeseen ground conditions
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in earthworks production processes and techniques

About You

To be successful in this role, you will be a degree qualified Civil Engineer with significant experience in bulk earthworks within the construction or infrastructure industry and extensive hands-on experience in earthmoving operations, including cut to fill, ground improvement, and drainage works.

You will have:

  • Strong understanding of geotechnical principles, material properties, and ground improvement techniques
  • Knowledge of advanced earthworks technologies such as GPS machine control, earthworks modelling software, and drone surveying
  • Familiarity with the operation and management of earthmoving equipment, including scrapers, dozers, graders, and haul trucks
  • Experience in managing subcontractors and direct labour teams on large-scale earthworks projects
  • A commitment to safety and sustainability in engineering practices
