About the Role / Are you up for the challenge?

 

As a Senior Project Engineer working in our dynamic rail services business, you will lead our Track and Civil projects across the full life cycle, from scoping, design management, tendering and estimating through to project delivery and completions. Our Southern Rail Services team pursues opportunities across SA/TAS and Vic from our base in Spotswood, Vic. Successful applicants can expect occasional requirements to work away to deliver projects, supported and rotating with the wider team.
Working within a supportive & collaborative team, your primary responsibilities would include preparing tender responses, including estimates, programs and methodology, coordinating and managing construction activities, ensuring quality standards are met, communicating with clients and stakeholders, maintaining safety on site, documenting project progress, collaborating and coordinating with the project team, and ensuring compliance with client or industry standards and regulations.

 

Responsibilities of the role include / What you will do;

 

  • Lead the development of project plans, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the scope, objectives, and key deliverables. Oversee project coordination efforts to ensure seamless execution in collaboration with project team and stakeholders.
  • Provide high-level technical guidance to the project team, evaluate engineering designs, and resolve complex issues, while advising on advanced construction methodologies.
  • Direct and supervise on-site construction activities, ensuring adherence to project specifications and safety standards. Conduct detailed inspections, identify deviations, and initiate corrective actions.
  • Uphold the highest standards of quality assurance by monitoring workmanship and materials, enforcing quality control protocols, and performing regular inspections.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate project documentation, including progress reports, work schedules, and other essential records. Prepare and disseminate detailed reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and project contributors, effectively addressing concerns and fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Champion health and safety compliance, leading by example to promote a safe working environment. Conduct safety inspections and promptly manage safety-related issues.
  • Employ strategic problem-solving skills to resolve technical challenges and conflicts, ensuring project progress aligns with objectives. Make informed decisions that drive project success.
  • Actively contribute to precontract discussions and tendering processes, providing technical expertise to enhance the company's competitive edge from the outset.

 

To be successful in this key role, you must have / What we are looking for;

 

  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. A Master's degree or further professional qualifications would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrable experience in a project engineering or management role within the construction industry, with a proven track record of leading complex Track and Civil projects to successful completion.
  • Strong technical acumen with the ability to provide guidance on engineering designs and construction methodologies.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with a capacity to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
  • A solid understanding of construction laws, regulations, and building codes, with a commitment to upholding health and safety standards.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • The ability to identify and resolve technical issues swiftly, employing analytical and problem-solving skills to navigate project challenges.
  • Proficiency in project management software, as well as standard office tools and technology.
  • A proactive approach to continuous professional development, staying abreast of industry trends and innovations.
  • Leadership qualities, with the capability to mentor and guide team members while fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • A strategic thinker with the foresight to contribute to precontracts and tendering processes, influencing project outcomes from the initial stages.
