About North Western Program Alliance

 

North Western Program Alliance (NWPA) consists of four Alliance partners – John Holland, KBR, MTM, V/Line and the client (LXRP), working together as one team to achieve shared goals.   


Since 2017, the Victorian Government has entrusted North Western Program Alliance (NWPA) and our Alliance partners to remove dangerous and congested level crossings, deliver new rail stations and infrastructure, and create more community open spaces.  


Our Alliance currently has three projects in delivery and two in development phase, along with the successful delivery of ten level crossing removal projects (17LX) and several premium stations.

We are looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join our Melton Line Upgrade (MLU) Project.

About the Role

 

Whilst you will be initially based on the North Western Program Alliance, this is a long-term career opportunity with John Holland.

 

As a Senior Project Engineer, with the support of your team, you will coordinate on-site engineering functions for the Project, to achieve time and budget objectives and provide efficient support for construction activities.

 

Reporting into the Construction Manager, some responsibilities will include procurement of all concrete above/below ground, lift planning, scheduling, forecasting, reporting and being the interface between clients/consultants/suppliers. You will manage quality, completions and work closures, as well as team management and coordination.

Responsibilities of the role include;

 

•    Manage on-site engineering functions through subordinates, which may include Project Engineers, and/or Cost/Planning Engineers 
•    Obtain relevant design parameter information for incorporation into detailed designs and construction specifications
•    Monitor quality and quantities of incoming equipment and material, check work drawings, construction and specifications against site plans and conditions and arrange corrections or modifications where necessary.
•    Coordinate the activities of an engineering team, programme workloads and provide technical and administrative guidance to the engineering staff to ensure aims and objectives are effectively and economically achieved
•    Ensure that project engineering completion is on time and within budget. Record completed work, costs incurred, materials used and retain progress drawings 
•    Accurate forecasts of costs and revenue and utilise corrective action in line with JH’s authority and reporting frameworks to maximise the profit margin 
•    Assign work and assist with reviews for accuracy and adherence to required standards of supplier, subcontractor quotations/purchase orders as well as subcontractor arrangements
•    Participate in planning future requirements including machine tools, ancillary equipment, major plant and labour. Direct site surveys and preparatory work prior to construction.
•    Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and planning authorities to ensure satisfactory completion of structures and construction work
•    Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems, reporting and procedures

To be in the successful role, you will have;

 

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, Building Construction or equivalent 
•    Diploma of Project Management in Engineering Science, Building, Construction or equivalent 
•    Demonstrated post graduate engineering experience with site based preferred
•    Experience on Major Rail or Infrastructure Projects
•    Project Engineer and operational experience
•    Advanced commercial acumen including cost reduction and meeting budgets
•    Delivery of major projects and teams to program and budget specifications 
•    Understanding of the Quality Management Plan. Safety Management Plan, Environmental Management Plan and Projects Design Management Plan
•    Quantitative and qualitative safety, environment and quality risk management
•    Excellent client relationship and stakeholder management
•    People and performance management including the performance of subcontractors
•    Effective time management skills
•    You need to be able to meet any requirements which are necessary to safely perform your role (e.g. receiving a COVID-19 vaccination pursuant to a relevant health order or by clients, or as otherwise required)
