About the role:

John Holland’s Infrastructure division is currently constructing some of Australia’s most complex projects, including the Black Hill to Tomago M1, Gold Coast Light Rail, and Upper South Creek Advanced Water Recycling Centre.

We are looking to appoint an experienced Structural Estimator to join our infrastructure estimating department in either Melbourne or Sydney.

 

Involved in the estimation of key infrastructure projects around Australia, ensure accurate estimates of the total cost of allocated projects are completed on time, in accordance with required technical standards.

What you will do:

  • Assume responsibility for the estimation of structural elements in projects, including road and rail bridge structures, water retaining structures, retaining walls, retention structures.
  • Estimate project quantities and costs in preparation of major tenders on a timely and cost effective basis
  • Monitor current competitive prices, new techniques and cost trends
  • Undertake productivity and benchmarking analysis
  • Develop accurate estimates through first principles pricing of direct and indirect job costs
  • Ensure estimate reflects the Construction methodology and staging developed by the bid team
  • Review and challenge tender design solutions and construction methodologies to ensure best ‘Value for Money’ outcome incorporated into the estimate
  • Prepare request for quotation for subcontractor and/or suppliers
  • Demonstrate accurate analysis and assessment of subcontractor/ supplier and contractor quotes
  • Liaise with subcontractors/suppliers to ensure accurate pricing to make assessment of supplier and subcontractor quotes
  • Liaise with other estimators to ensure no duplication of scope or scope gaps are present in the estimate
  • Provide feedback and collate tender deviations / exceptions
  • Assist in development of other estimators, provide advice on estimating procedures where possible

To be successful in this key role, you must have:

  • Tertiary or Trade Qualifications in Construction, Engineering, Science, Quantity Surveying and/or Project/Construction Management
  • 7-10 years’ experience in construction cost planning, tendering or project delivery
  • Minimum 10 years’ construction experience
  • Experience in Structural and civil estimating of Infrastructure projects
  • Experience with estimating software packages used in the Australian infrastructure market (e.g. CATS, Expert Estimation, Candy)
  • Experience with Quantity Take-off software (such as CostX, Bluebeam, Planswift, etc).
