About the Role / Are you up for the challenge?

 

As a Civil Site Engineer on the Inland Rail Beveridge to Albury Tranche 2 Project you will be an integral part of our construction team, playing a key role in the successful delivery of the project. As a Site Engineer, you will be involved in the planning, design, and execution of the project, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and regulations. 
Your expertise in engineering principles and construction techniques will be essential in maintaining the highest quality standards and achieving project objectives. Multiple Site Engineer positions are available across the Project’s Wandong, Broadford, Seymour, Tallarook and Euroa sites.
The role will initially be based at out main office in Docklands, with the requirement to the mobilise to the prospective site when construction works early / mid 2025.

 

Project Description

 

Inland Rail is transforming how goods are moved around Australia, connecting Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This 1,700km fast freight backbone will complete our national freight network – better connecting producers to markets and creating new opportunities for regional businesses, industries and communities. 
The Beveridge to Albury (B2A) project is the Victorian portion of the program undertaken along approximately 305 kms of existing northeast rail corridor between Beveridge and Albury. B2A is staged in two tranches. Tranche 1 includes enhancement works across four sites and corridor wide works. 
Tranche 2 works will be delivered by John Holland and includes adjustment of track alignments, the provision of new road overbridges and station modifications to enable the safe operation of double-stack freight trains across eight B2A project sites between Wandong and Benalla. 

 

Responsibilities of the role include / What you will do;

 

Overall responsibility for the role on this high-profile major project includes:

  • Ensure compliance of the works with technical specifications, applicable legislation, approvals and standards and JHG SQE Risk Management process
  • Conduct and administer overall job planning and programming including short range and intermediate activities for construction projects for approval by the Project Manager
  • Input information and undertake minor design on site and monitor and recommend changes to design details to increase the ease of construction 
  • Exercise professional judgement in resolving engineering issues, i.e. construction methods, design, engineering procedures, etc.
  • Demonstrate financial management skills including demonstrated behaviour in reducing costs and meeting budgets
  • Verify subcontractors’ claims and variations
  • Undertake cost controlling and estimating as required by the Site Manager
  • Maintain drawing register controls for the project
  • Implement and communicate risk controls and actions involved in delivery and implementation of projects
  • Demonstrate skills in reporting on project performance, compliance and defects and/or non-conformance
  • Undertake quantitative and qualitative safety, environment and quality risk assessment to ensure acceptable quality of structures and finishes
  • Demonstrate people management skills by being able to manage work and performance of teams and subcontractors to achieve project outcomes
  • Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems, reporting and procedures

 

To be successful in this key role, you must have / What we are looking for;

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.
  • A solid background in civil engineering is necessary, with a preference for individuals who have experience in construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles, construction techniques, and industry standards.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other relevant engineering software.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory requirements and permits.
  • Detailed understanding of requirements to deliver works under occupation conditions for rail / road possessions.
