About the Role / Are you up for the challenge?
As a Utilities Project Engineer on the Beveridge to Albury project, you will play a pivotal role in the successful coordination and delivery of all utility-related aspects of this major infrastructure project. This large-scale rail and infrastructure initiative involves complex planning and collaboration with utility providers, ensuring seamless integration of utility systems while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Your role will involve working closely with multidisciplinary teams, subcontractors, and external stakeholders, ensuring the timely and efficient management of utility services across the project corridor. This is a site-based role that will require you to travel (DIDO) to various construction sites (under a LAFA arrangement) to oversee utility relocation and to ensure that project objectives are met.
Project Description
Inland Rail is transforming how goods are moved around Australia, connecting Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This 1,700km fast freight backbone will complete our national freight network – better connecting producers to markets and creating new opportunities for regional businesses, industries and communities.
The Beveridge to Albury (B2A) project is the Victorian portion of the program undertaken along approximately 305 kms of existing northeast rail corridor between Beveridge and Albury. B2A is staged in two tranches. Tranche 1 includes enhancement works across four sites and corridor wide works.
Tranche 2 works will be delivered by John Holland and includes adjustment of track alignments, the provision of new road overbridges and station modifications to enable the safe operation of double-stack freight trains across eight B2A project sites between Wandong and Benalla.
Responsibilities of the role include / What you will do;
• Coordinate the relocation, protection, and installation of utilities (e.g., water, gas, electricity, telecoms) in line with project requirements.
• Collaborate with utility service providers, designers, and subcontractors to develop and execute utility plans.
• Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
• Monitor project progress, manage schedules, and report on utility-related activities.
• Track, manage and report on costs including active participation in forecasting.
• Identify and resolve any utility-related issues or conflicts during construction.
• Ensure adherence to project specifications and quality standards.
• Manage permits, approvals, and documentation related to utilities.
• Provide technical input and support to the project team.
• Maintain strong communication with internal and external stakeholders.
To be successful in this key role, you must have / What we are looking for;
• A degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience in utilities coordination or project engineering within the construction or infrastructure sector.
• Strong knowledge of utility services, including water, gas, electricity, and telecommunications.
• Excellent problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• A proactive approach to safety and risk management.
• Familiarity with relevant regulations, standards, and permits.
• Proficiency in project management tools and software.
