About the Project

 

John Holland has been named as the preferred contractor to deliver the North-East Link, Hoddle St to Bourke Road package of works. The Eastern Hoddle Bourke Alliance (EHBA) is made up of John Holland, Seymour Whyte and design partners Mott MacDonald and Jacobs Group, in partnership with MRPV.


The scope of works includes upgrading six kilometres of the Freeway with new traffic lanes, bridge upgrades and urban noise walls, a dedicated busway (fully segregated from mainline traffic), and a new bridge over the Yarra River.


The NEL Project involves the design and construction of the upgrade of the Eastern Freeway from Hoddle Street in the west to Burke Road in the east, including:

6km of brownfield freeway widening to accommodate additional traffic lanes in each direction
3km dedicated busway separated from mainline traffic
Significant structures including 600m of bridges, including a 180m architectural steel shared use path bridge of the Yarra River
Freeway-wide scope including ITS, retaining walls, stormwater drainage, noise walls, lighting and signage

Site location to be around Chandler Highway / Eastern Freeway interchange.

About the Role

 

The primary objective of this position is to independently verify that construction activities comply with approved design, standards, specifications, and ITPs (Inspection and Test Plans). This role is part of the quality assurance team, it includes proactive observation, trend spotting, and risk escalation

What you will do;

 

• Conduct routine surveillance on site activities.

• Conduct formal verification inspections at Hold/ Witness Points as per ITPs.

• Review work against design drawings, specifications, and relevant standards (e.g. VicRoads, Austroads, Project Requirements Specification).

• Identify early signs of quality or procedural issues and report them.

• Maintain a surveillance log including photos and site observations.

• Participate in Prestart & toolbox talks and briefings to understand upcoming high-risk activities.

• Confirm that materials and workmanship meet project requirements before release to next stage.

• Sign off verification records and ensure traceability of quality documents.

• Assist with NCR (Non-Conformance Report) identification and resolution.

• Maintain detailed records, photos, and verification checklists.

• Collaborate with Quality Coordinators and Engineers to close out quality records.

• Support Site audits and audits relevant to TB46/47/48 by providing objective evidence of verification activities.

• Escalate potential non-conformances, unsafe acts, or deviations from approved methods.

• Understand, comply and remain current with all NEL policies, procedures and compliance training as relevant to your role.

• Maintain up to date knowledge and application of, legislation, industry standards and technological innovations as relevant to your role.

• Perform all duties in accordance with NEL policies, processes, systems, reporting and procedures

 

 

What we are looking for;

 

• Demonstrated experience as a quality assurance professional for engineering and/or civil construction.

• Demonstrated years of construction experience in quality or verification roles.

• Working knowledge of client standards and specifications.

• Sound knowledge of ITPs, construction specifications, and testing requirements.

• Ability to read and interpret drawings and technical documents.

• Intermediate computer literacy and familiarity on Document Control software – (InEight).

• Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
