About the Belmont Desal project:

A 30 ML/d seawater desalination plant will be delivered at Belmont South NSW, to provide weather independent supply to the community in the lower Hunter region.

 

Seen as one of the largest capital projects in the water sector in Hunter region, the community is expecting a sustainable outcome for the nature of a seawater desalination plant. It is also the first project in Hunter Water pursuing an IS Rating, as part of its Carbon Neutral Strategy by 2035.

About the role:

Join our team as a Senior Contracts Administrator and become an integral part of our project's success.  Plan and manage the end to end commercial management of large and complex subcontracts and self-performed works, both directly and indirectly. Work effectively with internal and external stakeholders and indirect reports to deliver project commercial outcomes.

 

The role will be a full-time site based role located in Newcastle, NSW.

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Participate in scope of works planning, ensuring that scope gaps are minimised, cost efficiencies are maximised and subcontractor capabilities are considered.
  • Prepare procurement packages, identification of potential subcontractors, determine procurement methods, preparation and administration of tenders, and negotiation and preparation of subcontracts.
  • Provide management and leadership to other commercial roles, including indirect reports.
  • Maintain contact and good working relationships with a broad range of subcontractors and a maintain good awareness of market conditions and movements.
  • Assess commercial and contractual risks associated with the delivery and implementation of subcontracts, identify and implement appropriate controls, and escalate actual or potential issues to Contracts Manager, Commercial Manager, Construction Manager and Project Director as appropriate.
  • Assist with identification and quantification of potential Head Contract Variations.
  • Ensure cost forecasting for allocated subcontracts and cost codes is accurately maintained and any cost issues are appropriately escalated upon identification.
  • Operate and maintain commercial and contract systems including Project Pack Web (PPW).
  • Assist with Head Contract administration where required.
  • Assist with relevant month end financial processes (e.g.: identification / preparation of accruals etc.).
  • Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems and procedures.

To be successful in this key role, you must have:

  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Economics, Quantity Surveying, Law, Commerce or equivalent
  • Post graduate qualifications e.g. graduate certificate, graduate diploma in Commerce, Accounting, Business, Construction, Property, Quantity Surveying, Law or other associated disciplines
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Contracts Administrator or Quantity Surveyor in the construction and engineering industry
  • Experience in all stages of subcontract management, including scope preparation, procurement, cost forecasting, subcontractor management, claims/variations management, completion and close out
  • Site-based engineering or construction experience
  • Experience with a variety of project values and complexity, including large, technically complex works packages
  • Strong commercial acumen and awareness in areas of cost management and contract law
