About the Role

Now seeking a practically oriented, self-starting, systems-focussed problem solver to fill the role of Plant Services Engineer to join the WA Rail Plant Services team based in Welshpool.  You will provide engineering and technical support in specifications, regulatory compliance, network registrations, and reporting of plant & rolling stock maintenance management and certifications.

As a key member of our National Plant Engineering team, you will be supported by a like‑minded team of accomplished and highly regarded professionals located around the country. 

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Rolling stock compliance assessment and rail network registration for our fleet of track machines & road rail vehicles.
  • Coordinate and conduct type testing and network interface tests including twist, weight, outline, brakes etc.
  • Defect & incident investigation, analysis & reporting.
  • Design solutions & manage implementation through change management process.
  • Providing technical and engineering input into modifications through to major rebuilds of existing equipment and specification of new builds (including documenting operational manuals, specifications, procedures, and risk management).
  • Assisting management with the development and implementation of Plant Services systems and procedures.
  • Driving, planning, and managing change management based on sound engineering principles and standards.
  • SQE Engineering elements of Plant Services maintenance and engineering tasks.
  • Plant Hazard Risk Assessment development, implementation, management and collating of records.
  • Driving an engineering culture across the JHG Rail Plant Services business based on best practice and with a proactive focus on risk management and SQE.
  • Raising work orders for engineering works.
  • Providing regular reporting of planned work with KPI’s to ensure the effectiveness of engineering activities across the Rail Plant Services West networks.
  • Interpret, understand, and apply standards.

To be successful in this key role, you must have:

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree (typically Mechanical/Electrical/Mechatronics or associated disciplines).
  • Demonstrated experience within high-risk, highly regulated industry such as Rail, Construction, Engineering, Aerospace or Mining.
  • Experience with asset management systems and plant and equipment fleet maintenance – (IBM Maximo experience an advantage).
  • Mechanical knowledge around mobile plant maintenance and engineering.
  • Knowledge of principles of planning, asset lifecycle and SQE management systems and their application to maintenance and engineering requirements.
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well developed and structured approach to problem solving.
  • Systems focus with aptitude for mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to be a self-starter in all work settings.
  • Familiarity with CAD applications– Autocad &/or Solidworks desirable.
