Title:  Design Director - Project Launch

About the Position


We are currently looking for an experienced Design Director – Project Launch to join our TEK (Technology, Engineering and Knowledge) division based in our Pyrmont office. Working within our TEK Design and Engineering team, reporting into our General Manager – Design and Engineering Management, you’ll be accountable provide senior leadership in the key role of Design Management, with specialist responsibility for setting up, executing and governance control of appropriate systems, processes and tools to enable Design Management tasks to be fully effective during the critical stage of Project Launch.   Working with the other TEK Business Units and John Holland Group Business Units to achieve project objectives from the commencement, positioning John Holland as a market leader in the identification, bid, design and delivery of infrastructure, building and rail projects.

 

Your key tasks will include (but not limited to):

 

  • Development, review, implementation & management of Project Launch Design Management activities, processes and tools
  • Promote a culture of business excellence within TEK through accountability, innovation and transparency against all performance objectives
  • Develop Project Launch design management systems for best practice and recommend updates – including advocate of design management improvement
  • Lead and drive design management culture based on best practice, meeting internal and external needs with pro-active focus on risk management, SQE and sustainability
  • Promote TEK nationally to the wider JH business through meetings and presentations and attend conferences and presentations/workshops to promote TEK to the wider industry
  • Contribute and liaise with national pre-contract managers
  • Collaborate with other Business Unit Design Managers and senior engineering management resources across the business to ensure consistency in design management practice and knowledge sharing
  • Assist in creation of Design Management professional development requirements and retention of Design Management knowledge within the business

 


To be successful, you will have the following:

 

  • Qualification in Engineering, Building, Construction or equivalent
  • 20 years’ experience local and international experience specialising in the delivery and design including significant design management roles
  • Experience in Construct Only, Design & Construct, Managing Contract, Alliance,
  • Joint Ventures, Alliances & PPP Contracts types
  • Design Management of over AUD >$1B projects
  • Experienced management and mentorship of tender and delivery teams in the establishment of best practise and methodical approach throughout bids and active projects
