John Holland Group is seeking Expressions of Interest from highly experienced Systems Engineers, from Engineering level to Systems Engineering Managers, to join our Rail Engineering & Integration group of specialist rail engineers, supporting the delivery of SESA services across our portfolio of upcoming and ongoing rail projects in Sydney and Melbourne.  These roles will contribute to the delivery of complex, safety‑critical systems that underpin the performance, reliability, and regulatory compliance of our rail projects. 

 

This opportunity can be based in our Sydney or Melbourne offices.

 

About the Opportunity:
We are looking to engage Systems Engineering professionals with demonstrated capability across the full systems engineering lifecycle to join our team. This is a long-term opportunity to join our SESA team where successful candidates will work within multi‑disciplinary engineering teams, supporting the development, integration, assurance, and verification of rail systems and subsystems.

 

This EOI aims to identify individuals who can provide expertise aligned with recognised rail standards, including but not limited to:

 

-EN 50126 / 50128 / 50129 (RAMS)
-Systems Engineering (ISO/IEC 15288)
-CENELEC standards for safety‑related systems
-Australian rail safety and accreditation frameworks

 

Key Responsibilities:

We are seeking Systems Engineers with strong capability across the structured engineering lifecycle with experience in the following Systems Engineering competencies:

 

Requirements Engineering
-Eliciting, analysing, validating, and managing system requirements
-Developing requirements baselines and ensuring traceability

 

System Architecture & Design
-Developing system architectures, functional models, and interface definitions
-Conducting functional decomposition and allocation of requirements

 

Interface Management
-Identifying, defining, and controlling internal and external interfaces
-Managing interface hazards, performance dependencies, and integration constraints

 

Verification & Validation (V&V)
-Preparing V&V strategies, plans, traceability matrices, and test evidence
-Executing and coordinating verification across multidisciplinary teams

 

Integration Planning & Coordination
-Sequencing integration activities and resolving integration issues
-Ensuring subsystem compatibility and alignment to the system architecture

 

Configuration & Change Management
-Applying disciplined SE control processes to manage baselines and technical change

 

Systems Assurance
-Supporting RAMS, hazard management, and compliance to applicable standards (e.g., EN 50126 series)
-Contributing to system safety cases and assurance artefacts

 

Lifecycle Management
-Applying the V Model and ISO/IEC 15288 principles across concept, development, test, and operational phases

 

Qualifications:
-Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Software, or related discipline
-Postgraduate qualifications in Systems Engineering (desirable)
-CSEP/ESEP certification (desirable)
-Rail‑specific safety competencies where relevant
