About the Role

An opportunity has arisen for a Construction Liaison Officer (CLO – Train Control) to join our WA Rail Team.  The primary purpose of this role is to facilitate the safe movement of rolling stock from the FMG Main line into the construction zone, interfacing with FMG Network Control and JHG Operations.  This role will operate on a FIFO roster to a Pilbara-based Rail Project.

Responsibilities of the role include (but are by no means limited to); ­
  • Lead an effective and professional Network Control team, comprising of both Protection Officers and Key Stakeholders
  • Manage day to day operations, ensuring compliance with all network rules and protocols
  • Responsible for the examination of all incoming documents and information to eliminate any errors or omissions likely to impact on the safe workers ability to perform safe working duties on site
  • Document all rolling stock movements and workgroups booking onto and off the network
  • Responsible for safe working, signalling requirements, infrastructure constraints and operations which collectively impact on the way trains/work trains/track machines are coordinated and pathed through the project work sites
  • Accountable for developing productive partnerships, open communication, and sharing of information
  • Responsible for Rail Safety Requirements, operational strategies, and advice on safe working within the project          
  • Provide specialist and technical support and information to all railway workers which is critical for making decisions about operational safe working strategies.
  • Manage information flow in and out of the project – for example, Safe Notices, TOC Wavers, Site Rail Track Diagrams and Site procedures
  • Responsible for the coordination of track restrictions and speed limits that prevent certain operations at specific locations at nominated times
  • Take reasonable care for personal safety and for the safety of people who may be affected by the rail safety worker’s acts or omission
To be successful in this key role, you must have; ­
  • Cert IV in Rail Network Control or related industry experience
  • Qualified in safe working Level 4, rules and procedures (FMG) – Training provided
  • C Class Driving Licence
  • Minimum of five years previous rail experience, in a similar role­     
  • Demonstrated high level of knowledge and understanding of the rail network restrictions, operating conditions and safe working rules
  • Advanced communication skills, with proven ability to convey information accurately and follow strict communication protocols
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to use safe working control systems
  • Knowledge of working train systems, sidings, and station working
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and coordinate safe working activities
  • Knowledge of the Rail Safety Act and System Rail Safety Plans
