About the Project:
John Holland is progressing the development of Stage 1A of the multi-stage Beveridge Intermodal Freight Terminal (BIFT) project, a pivotal development set to transform the logistics landscape in Victoria, Australia. This initial phase marks the beginning of a journey towards creating a state-of-the-art facility that will streamline the movement of goods across the nation and beyond.
Strategically located to harness the full potential of its proximity to key transport links, BIFT is poised to deliver unparalleled efficiencies in the distribution of freight. With the latest advancements in logistics technology at its core, Stage 1A lays the groundwork for a hub of innovation, ensuring that cargo is moved with unprecedented speed and precision.

About the Role / Are you up for the challenge?
As a Rail Project Engineer on the BIFT project, your role is pivotal in driving the engineering aspects of our rail infrastructure. You will collaborate with a diverse team, to deliver the rail components of Stage 1A and ensuring seamless integration with the broader intermodal freight terminal.
Your technical expertise and proactive management will ensure the delivery of high-quality rail infrastructure, adhering to industry standards and enhancing the project's overall success.
Under the guidance of a Senior Project Engineer, you will play a key role in managing a range of rail engineering activities essential to this significant rail infrastructure project. Leveraging your extensive expertise, you will ensure that rail works are carried out impeccably, consistent with John Holland’s commitment to executing projects with the highest regard for safety, sustainability, and exceptional quality standards.
Responsibilities of the role include / What you will do;
- Oversee the engineering processes for rail construction aspects of the BIFT Stage 1A project, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with all standards.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated rail solutions and oversee the implementation of engineering designs.
- Manage the rail project timeline, ensuring milestones are met and that work proceeds according to schedule.
- Conduct on-site inspections and assessments to ensure the safety and quality of rail construction activities.
- Liaise with stakeholders, including clients, consultants, and contractors, to ensure clear communication and alignment of project goals.
- Handle technical queries and provide engineering solutions that address challenges while optimising project outcomes.
- Prepare and review engineering documentation, including reports, proposals, and drawings, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Monitor and report on the progress and cost of the rail components, implementing strategies for cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
To be successful in this key role, you must have / What we are looking for;
- A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Rail Engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven experience as a Project Engineer within the rail sector, working on large-scale rail infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of rail engineering principles, construction methods, and safety standards.
- Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, with the capability to convey complex technical information to a range of audiences.
- A proactive problem-solver with a track record of delivering innovative engineering solutions.
- Proficiency in using engineering software and project management tools to plan, design, and oversee project elements.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and staying abreast of industry advancements and best practices.
- The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and to lead with confidence when required.
- An appreciation for sustainability considerations within engineering projects and a willingness to adopt environmentally responsible practices.
