About the Project

 

John Holland is progressing the development of Stage 1A of the multi-stage Beveridge Intermodal Freight Terminal project (BIP), a pivotal development set to transform the logistics landscape in Victoria, Australia.

 

This initial phase marks the beginning of a journey towards creating a state-of-the-art facility that will streamline the movement of goods across the nation and beyond.

 

Strategically located to harness the full potential of its proximity to key transport links, it is poised to deliver unparalleled efficiencies in the distribution of freight. With the latest advancements in logistics technology at its core, Stage 1A lays the groundwork for a hub of innovation, ensuring that cargo is moved with unprecedented speed and precision.

About the Role / Are you up for the challenge?

 

We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to deliver road construction works across the BIP project.

 

This role is responsible for managing day‑to‑day site activities to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, statutory requirements, and client expectations.

 

You will coordinate resources, subcontractors, and suppliers, drive program and cost outcomes, and maintain a strong focus on quality, safety, and environmental compliance. This is a hands‑on role suited to an engineer who thrives in a delivery‑focused environment and takes pride in building high‑quality road infrastructure.

 

Responsibilities of the role include / What you will do;

 

  • ­Assist with planning, coordination, and delivery of road construction projects, including highways, local roads, pavements, drainage and associated infrastructure.
  • Ensure compliance with project schedules, budgets, and quality requirements.
  • Coordinate and monitor subcontractors, suppliers, and workforce to deliver milestones on time.
  • Interpret and apply engineering drawings, specifications, DTP standards and project documentation.
  • Resolve technical issues on-site promptly and escalate when necessary.
  • Implement and monitor quality processes to ensure adherence to project specifications and standards.
  • Conduct site inspections and testing to verify compliance with design requirements.
  • Ensure road construction activities are conducted safely and in alignment with HSE policies and procedures
  • Lead by example in fostering a safety-first culture on-site.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation measures.
  • Liaise with clients, local authorities, consultants, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Participate in and chair regular project meetings and provide status updates to stakeholders.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, local authorities, and internal stakeholders to support project delivery
  • Assist in preparing and managing project budgets, cost forecasting, and variations.
  • Support the procurement process, including supplier selection and negotiation and agreements.
  • Maintain accurate project records, including progress reports, site diaries, and as-built documentation.
  • Provide regular updates to the Project Manager and other team members.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and innovative construction techniques.
  • Contribute to lessons learned and knowledge-sharing initiatives within the project team.

 

To be successful in this key role, you must have / What we are looking for;

 

Qualifications    

  • Trade qualification in Engineering, Science, Building Construction or Business Management
  • Tertiary degree in Engineering, Science, Building, Construction or equivalent, Diploma of Project Management, Graduate Certificate or Certificate IV Safety
            

 

Experience    

  • Experience working on active construction sites within a civil contracting environment   ­    
  • Minium 2 years’ experience in road construction projects delivered in accordance with DTP Standards and Specifications
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors and suppliers
  • Strong understanding of road construction methodologies and sequencing
