About the Project
John Holland has recently been awarded the Illabo to Stockinbingal section of Inland Rail in NSW. The Illabo to Stockinbingal section is about 39km of new rail corridor located within the local government areas of Junee and Cootamundra-Gundagai. It will provide a direct route from east of Illabo, tracking north to Stockinbingal and connecting into the existing Forbes rail line.
Illabo to Stockinbingal is a DIDO Project, accommodation is provided on the 2:1 (2 weeks on / 1 week off) roster.
About The Role
Area Manager – Earthworks
- Providing leadership and direction to site engineers, supervisors, and teams working on the bulk earthworks, fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Experience in remote location roster based work and highly resilient
- Operational management, overseeing bulk earthworks projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Working with senior management to develop strategic plans for the earthworks department, including improvements in processes and the incorporation of new technologies.
- Encouraging the adoption of innovative practices and technologies to improve efficiency and productivity in earthworks operations.
- Apply contemporary practices in construction methodology to complete assigned works in compliance with client expectations, company objectives and contractual obligations.
- Manage development of and present to construction manager construction plan, programming and completion schedules.
- Monitor progress, ensuring that work quality and techniques are of a high standard and report regularly on project performance, and cost against baseline targets.
- Authorise engagement of subcontractors, management of subcontractor work to achieve outcomes.
- Stakeholder management: Ensure that stakeholders are actively engaged and that beneficial relationships between the project and the client, subcontractors, community and other external parties are developed and maintained
- People management: Establish and develop a high performing team to ensure the project has the capability to achieve targets
- Financial management: Ensure strong contract, commercial and financial risk management, accurate forecasting of both costs and revenue, take corrective action in line with JH’s authority and reporting frameworks and maximise the profit margin for the project
To be successful in this key role, you must have:
- Degree qualified Civil Engineer, Construction Management or similar
- Previous experience within a Tier One contractor
- Delivery of infrastructure projects, with exposure to Civil, Earthworks, Roadworks and Rail construction
- Exposure or knowledge in material processing, crushing, screening, and blasting
- Direct or transferable experience from other disciplines welcome
- Passion for teamwork and delivering on tight deadlines
- Excellent time management and prioritisation
- Understanding of HSEQ management systems, compliance, and reporting procedures
