Title:  Assurance & Critical Risk Specialist

About the Role

As Assurance and Critical Risk Specialist, you will lead the development and delivery of John Holland's Health, Safety, Environment & Sustainability (HSES) Assurance Framework, providing independent second line assurance over critical risks, critical controls and compliance. This role can be based in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane.

You will design and deliver risk-based HSES assurance programs, evaluate the effectiveness of critical controls, and provide objective insights to Executive and Board governance forums that strengthen organisational resilience, compliance and continual improvement.

What you will do

• Develop, implement and continually improve John Holland’s HSES Assurance Framework, including assurance methodologies, standards, protocols and reporting requirements.
• Lead the enterprise Second Line Assurance Program, including the development of annual assurance plans aligned to enterprise risk profiles and strategic priorities.
• Maintain the enterprise HSES Critical Risk Management Framework and oversee assurance activities that verify the effectiveness of critical risks and critical controls.
• Lead enterprise Critical Control Verification (CCV) programs, including verification standards, quality requirements and monitoring the effectiveness of verification activities.
• Develop and implement contractor assurance programs and conduct independent assurance reviews following significant events to assess investigation quality, corrective actions and organisational learning opportunities.
• Develop HSES assurance reporting and insights for the Executive Leadership Team and Board Committees, while assessing assurance maturity and driving continual improvement across assurance practices.

What we are looking for

• AQF Level 6 qualification in WHS (or similar) and a Diploma in Quality Auditing.
• Extensive experience in HSE roles within large, complex organisations, ideally within construction, infrastructure or civil sectors.
• Experience implementing and maintaining Critical Risk Management frameworks, with an expert understanding of HSES compliance assurance audits and processes.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking and risk management capability, with a high attention to detail and a practical approach to problem solving.
• Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to develop procedures, reports and assurance documentation.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of an organisation.
