About the role:

Due to continued growth, we are currently looking for a Group Manager, Rail Engineering to maintain and grow the specialist Rail Engineering capabilities of John Holland’s Rail and Transport Business unit.

As Group Manager you will support tendering, design procurement, construction, operations, and maintenance activities to ensure compliance with regulatory expectations and minimize engineering risks.

This role will be based can be based in either Sydney or Melbourne. 
 

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing rail engineering governance practices on John Holland projects, assessing associated business risks, and developing effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Providing a rail engineering investigation and advisory service, using internal and external resources, to identify solutions to engineering constraints throughout the rail asset lifecycle (i.e., tenders, project delivery, operations, and maintenance).
  • Staying updated on developments and technological changes in the rail industry, positioning the Rail Business Group to seize opportunities while acknowledging constraints and risks.
  • Maintaining and improving internal rail engineering practices and processes, ensuring effective communication, understanding, and efficiency.
  • Leading the Rail Engineering team in supporting the business engineering requirements and facilitating the individual development goals of rail discipline engineers within the unit.
  • Developing and implementing a rail engineering capability aligned with future engineering proficiency expectations, in line with projected business development plans and strategies.
  • Reviewing established engineering governance processes and practices, making appropriate changes to enhance transparency, effectiveness, and efficiency.

To be successful in this key role, you must have:

  • Degree in (Civil or Mechanical or Electrical) Engineering that meets or exceeds AQF Level 7
  • Certificate III or above in Systems Engineering practices and processes
  • 10+ years in operations and/or maintenance of railways.
  • 10+ years in the design and construction of integrated railway system projects
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and leadership skills.
