Title:  Group Manager Environment & Sustainability

About the Role

As Group Manager - Environment and Sustainability, you will lead John Holland’s environment and sustainability strategy, governance, and compliance activities, providing enterprise-wide oversight and support across our business units and projects.  This role can be based in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane, with travel as required.

Working closely with the Strategy team and ESG pillar leaders, you will play a key role in coordinating and facilitating the delivery of our ESG strategy, ensuring environmental and sustainability priorities are embedded across the business.

What you will do

• Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of ESG strategies to align with John Holland’s pillars of Environmental, Social, and Governance.
• Develop and drive resource efficiency, net zero pathways, climate change resilience, and nature resilience business cases and initiatives to enhance environment and sustainability performance.
• Oversee ESG risk management, ensuring compliance with regulations and alignment with industry best practices.
• Provide input into business planning and tenders, ensuring environment and sustainability priorities are incorporated into project and organisational strategies.
• Manage and mentor the Environment and Sustainability team, fostering professional growth and alignment with organisational goals, and manage the shared service operational Environment and Sustainability teams to ensure business unit objectives are met.
• Coordinate the delivery of the broader corporate ESG strategy, including consolidating reporting, and drive continuous improvement in environment and sustainability systems, tools, and processes to enhance data capture, reporting, and decision-making.

What we are looking for

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Science, Safety, Environment, Quality Management, Sustainability or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience in strategic ESG and organisational change, and environment & sustainability roles within construction, engineering or other high-risk industries.
• Proven leadership and people management experience.
• Experience applying sustainability frameworks and rating tools.
• Strong understanding of environment and sustainability regulatory, compliance and reporting requirements
• Stakeholder engagement and consultation expertise.
