About our TEK Technical Design team

The Technical Design stream of TEK comprises subject matter experts in the disciplines of temporary works design, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, and traffic engineering.  We work closely with the various business units providing technical support and solutions to win and deliver safe and commercially successful projects by mitigating risk and developing innovative solutions.


About the Position

We are currently looking for an experienced Group Manager – Pavements and Materials to join our TEK (Technology, Engineering and Knowledge) division based in our Pyrmont office in Sydney. Working within our TEK Technical Design team, reporting into our General Manager – Technical Design, you will be accountable for providing leadership in all aspects of pavements and concrete/quarry materials and collaborate with other TEK disciplines and the broader John Holland Group to achieve successful project delivery through mitigation of risk, and implementation of best practise solutions.  


Your key tasks will include (but not limited to):


  • Assist in the development, review, implementation, and management of the TEK Technical Design business plans.
  • Oversee and manage the Pavements and Materials team daily.
  • Create, develop, implement, and review key performance indicators related to pavements and materials, as well as direct reports.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risk on John Holland tenders and projects.
  • Oversee Pavements and Materials recruitment and appointments.
  • Engage and influence the broader John Holland business to achieve superior outcomes across infrastructure, rail, and building projects.
  • Assist with managing annual Technical Engineering budgets.
  • Identify and implement innovative materials solutions to provide a winning edge.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines within TEK to achieve value outcomes.


To be successful, you will have the following:


  • Qualified pavement designer with various state and territory authorities.
  • Project based learning regarding pavement placing methodologies and design.
  • Project based learning regarding quarry materials and sourcing of raw materials.
  • 15+ years planning and constructing road pavements on infrastructure projects.
  • 15+ years working with quarry materials.  
  • Excellent client relationship and stakeholder management
