Job Description

An opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Industrial Relations Advisor to join our National Industrial Relations team based in Sydney (Pyrmont), NSW. Reporting into the Industrial Relations Manager NSW/ACT/QLD/NT, you’ll be responsible for assisting the Industrial Relations Manager NSW/ACT/QLD/NT in the development and implementation of IR strategies across multiple business units, within NSW/ACT/QLD/NT.


Responsibilities of the role include:

  • To assist the Industrial Relations Manager NSW/ACT/QLD/NT in the implementation of Industrial Relations strategies which enable Business Units to plan, win and deliver work
  • Lead EBA negotiations across all Business Unit’s operating within the nominated geographical area and ensure adequate planning, engagement and implementation plans are in place
  • To be personally involved in successfully managing the industrial risk on projects
  • Actively involved in the site setup and establishment of new projects to ensure IR best practice objectives are met
  • Coach and build capacity of leaders to manage effective IR on complex projects/operations
  • Representation at relevant Courts and Tribunals (for example unfair dismissal, general protections conciliations etc.)
  • To assist with case management of significant employee relations matters together with the National Advisory Service Employee Relations (‘‘NASER’’)
  • To work collaboratively with key members of the People team and broader HR function to ensure a consistent level of IR/ER service is provided across the company
  • To assist in ensuring the Business Units and projects understand and meet their regulatory and legal obligations as they relate to IR
  • Maintain professional awareness and understanding of industry trends, legislative changes and identify own development needs
  • Undertake workplace investigations as required, including gathering evidence, preparing investigation reports and making recommendations to the decision maker
  • Work with pre-contracts teams to prepare tender documentation, WRMPs and assist with the development of the IR strategy for the particular project
  • Deliver IR training modules to projects and Business Units as required

To be successful in this key role, you must have:

  • Bachelor Degree or Qualification and relevant experience in Law, Business, Industrial Relations, Human Resources or Employee Relations
  • Minimum 6 years industry experience, particularly solid experience in IR leadership/management
  • Experience delivering positive IR outcomes on complex major infrastructure projects
  • Detailed understanding of the NSW and QLD IR environments and established relationships with key stakeholders in the regions.
