About the Role
The Building NSW Planning Manager is a senior leadership role responsible for establishing, leading and continuously improving the planning and programming function across John Holland’s NSW Buildings portfolio, including major building projects and regions.
Reporting into the NSW Buildings leadership team, you will set the planning strategy, develop and govern high‑quality, integrated programmes, and monitor performance across the full project lifecycle to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and on budget, in line with John Holland procedures and standards.
You will work closely with Project Directors, Project Managers, commercial and delivery teams to drive programme certainty, proactively manage risk, and embed a strong planning and controls culture across the NSW Buildings business.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement planning strategies, audits and reviews for the Business Group, Region or major projects.
- Ensure project planning activities are conducted in accordance with John Holland policies, processes and procedures.
- Ensure monitoring and reporting of Project Controls processes are successfully established and implemented on projects.
- Provide effective, efficient and professional planning resources and support to the Business Group, Region or major projects, including the implementation of standard processes and reporting.
- Interface with project teams, partners, clients, stakeholders, consultants, designers, vendors and subcontractors to manage the planning function in accordance with established procedures.
- Proactively lead a planning and controls culture across the Business Group, Region or major projects, based on best practice and with a strong focus on risk management, cost control and SQE outcomes.
- Identify and communicate issues and opportunities early to the Business Group, Region or major project leadership teams.
- Provide training and guidance to subordinates and colleagues in the use of planning and programming systems, project monitoring and controls, and the interpretation of performance data and reporting.
- Supervise staff undertaking planning and controls activities, exercising functional leadership over all onsite personnel with planning or scheduling responsibilities, including subcontractor performance.
- Compile and collate reference and benchmarking data for future planning purposes in accordance with the John Holland Basis of Schedule.
- Implement project monitoring systems with a focus on time, cost, resources and quality, including project controls and earned value management, to maximise forecasting certainty.
- Ensure planning and controls reports provide accurate and reliable time and cost forecasts across projects.
- Support Project and Operations Managers in report interpretation, performance analysis, forward planning and the development of corrective actions to maximise project delivery outcomes.
- Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems and procedures.
What we are looking for;
Qualifications
Essential
- Tertiary degree in Engineering, Construction, Building, Science, Architecture or Project Management, or equivalent industry experience.
Typical
- Postgraduate qualifications or professional certifications in planning, project controls or project management.
Experience
Essential
- Minimum 12 years experience across construction, engineering, planning and project controls roles.
- Strong experience in project planning processes, including the application of risk management.
- Demonstrated use of planning software and tools such as Primavera Project Planning, time chainage charts, schedule risk analysis, programme forensic analysis, earned value management and cash flow analysis.
Typical
- Experience planning multi disciplined, complex construction projects.
- Proven leadership and management of planning and project controls teams.
- Experience managing planning functions for major projects and tenders.
- Capability in the use of digital engineering tools including 4D modelling, BIM and related platforms.
