Title: Principal Engineer - Geotechnical
Sydney, NSW, AU, 2009
About John Holland
At John Holland, our purpose is simple – we transform lives with everything we do.
We’ve always known that infrastructure is about people — our customers, our employees, and the communities in which we work every day.
That’s our difference. Deep experience and capability with a genuine care about creating better lives for people along the way.
Be part of the team that’s up for the challenge of transforming lives for good.
Are you up for the challenge?
We are currently looking for a Principal Engineer – Geotechnical or Geology to join our Engineering team. This role can be based out of our Sydney (Pyrmont) or Melbourne Office.
You will work in partnership with the Chief Engineer, Engineering General Manager, Geotechnical Group Manager and other members of the team to enable the Engineering Geotechnical Group to support John Holland Group projects.
About the Role
- Collaborate closely with John Holland bid and project teams across all stages of the project delivery lifecycle, from early engagement and Expressions of Interest through to post‑construction delivery, supporting successful outcomes across Infrastructure, Building and Rail sectors.
- Provide bid and project support through a combination of office‑based and on‑site involvement, as required. This may include site visits to both urban and regional locations across Australia in support of tender development and project delivery activities.
- Mentor, teach and share technical knowledge with Engineering team members to support bid and project success.
- Contribute and collaborate within the Engineering team and with other internal John Holland teams to support successful bid outcomes and project delivery.
About You
You hold a degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, or Geology, from an Engineers Australia‑recognised institution, with post‑graduate qualifications in geotechnical engineering desirable. Membership of Engineers Australia is essential, with active progress toward Chartered status.
You have gained extensive Australian experience delivering geotechnical outcomes across the full project lifecycle, from site investigations through to design support and defect rectification. Strong capability is demonstrated across field and laboratory practices, data interpretation and geotechnical modelling, including limit equilibrium, FEM and foundation software, supported by solid analytical skills.
A strong working knowledge of Australian Standards and construction methodologies across civil, rail and building projects, along with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels, will see you succeed in this role.
As part of the team, you help us deliver on our promise to transform lives
