We work in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia offering services from infrastructure and property development, to rail and building. By finding solutions to complex challenges, we transform communities to make them easier to move around, more connected and better to live in.

Due to ongoing growth of our operations, we are looking to engage a Principal Ventilation Engineer to join our team based in either Sydney or Melbourne.

The role is to lead the successful delivery of all Ventilation requirements within our M&E division, being a ‘knowledge centre’, driving innovation, best practise and pioneering the use of new systems and technology during tender and project phase to ensure systems performance and certainty to projects, optimising opportunity, mitigating risk and providing a consistent strategy and standardised methodology.  This will predominantly entail ensuring smart designs and appropriate scope, system specification and the oversight of implementation and commissioning of projects predominantly in Process and Underground Construction projects.

Responsibilities within the role will also be focussed on delivering in accordance with design requirements, time and cost constraints, and commercial, HR, quality, and environment and community targets with an absolute appreciation of safety. You will review progress against plans, contractual arrangements and delivery milestones to ensure they are on schedule and within quality and cost estimates and take effective remedial action as required.

You will take a lead role in providing self-performed technical, design and delivery expertise in all control related matters, aiding teams in design, engineering, procurement and construction, ensuring the correct provision of resources to deliver works within budget, time, quality and regulatory standards.  Whilst a technically focussed role, strong commercial acumen and appreciation is required.

Focus will be placed on the ability to actively engage and influence associated stakeholders to understand all ventilation related requirements and legislation, improving whole of project thinking, influencing and ensuring a positive culture of high-performance and success in delivery.

To succeed in this key role, it is expected you will have:

Bachelor of Engineering, Construction Management, Electrical, Mechatronic or Mechanical Engineering and preferably a Diploma or Master of Project Management with 15 years+ experience in site based $1bn+ project delivery roles.

Minimum 10 years + experience in design and self-delivery of significant ventilation packages on underground construction and/or process engineering projects (both temporary and permanent work).

Drive high performance, providing culture leadership and technical development, fostering a high performing team environment in tender and delivery phases with active, engaged stakeholder management both internally and externally.

Significant experience of managing self-performed works and ensure legislative, pre-contract and commercial obligations are met, including compliance with the relevant Building Code and legislative compliance.

Champion innovative working practices, promoting continuous improvement and contemporary practices in design and construction methodology.

Experience in managing within a variety of contracts, e.g. Joint Ventures, Alliances, Design & Construct.

We are currently involved in delivering many of Australia’s largest infrastructure projects. Whatever we face, the heart of what we do is creating people-centred solutions to complex challenges and opportunities. We think deeply about what we do and how it affects communities. We push boundaries and innovate, gain trust through our actions and whatever the project, we’re in it for the long, long term.

We work hard to attract and retain the best employees, and we provide opportunities for rich career experiences, and a strong framework for on-going career development.

We are committed to building, valuing and promoting diversity and inclusiveness across John Holland.
