We are currently seeking a motivated Electrical Project Engineer to join our Rail Infrastructure team. This role will provide critical support to our Rail Infrastructure Services business and John Holland’s Major Projects.

Based in Seven Hills, NSW, the successful candidate will initially support the Hunter-Central Coast Renewable Energy Zone (HCC REZ) project. This significant initiative involves upgrading the existing electricity network and constructing two new substations to enable connections to a range of renewable energy sources, advancing the Hunter region’s clean energy future. The project aims to deliver more than 1 GW of renewable energy capacity while minimising environmental and community impact.

This role will mainly be based in the Hunter region for the first 12-14 months and the expectation is for the successful candidate to be located mostly Monday - Friday on site. After the project completion the role will be based out of our Seven Hills depot.

 

Key Responsibilities:
As an Electrical Project Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to provide onsite engineering services and technical support to ensure the project is delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. 

 

You will:
-Champion the project’s vision, purpose, and values while fostering a collaborative team culture.
-Coordinate and administer electrical engineering activities in line with project plans, designs, and specifications.
-Lead and supervise on-site construction activities, ensuring compliance with safety and technical standards.
-Conduct detailed inspections, identify design or construction issues, and implement corrective measures.
-Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
-Promote health and safety compliance by conducting inspections and addressing safety-related matters promptly.
-Provide technical advice, evaluate electrical designs, and resolve complex engineering challenges.
-Assist in developing detailed cost forecasts and project reports.
-Contribute to the preparation of concise weekly and monthly project updates.
-Identify and manage contract variations and potential changes to project scope.

 

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

-A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
-At least 2 years’ experience in the Rail (Power & Electrical) or High Voltage Energy sectors.
-Strong expertise in HV/MV/LV distribution systems, protection equipment, control systems, and SCADA.
-Proven experience in interpreting electrical drawings, design documentation, and technical specifications.
-Confidence in leading and guiding contractors to achieve quality outcomes.
-Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
-Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
-Experience across the full project lifecycle (essential).
-Estimating experience (highly desirable).
