John Holland manages the innovative Country Regional Network (CRN) which makes us the first accredited private rail transport operator of a government owned heavy rail network in NSW, and one of only three accredited managers of public rail infrastructure in the State. The scope involves the operation, management and upgrade of country railway lines across NSW including 2,700km of operational freight and passenger lines, and 3,100km of non-operational lines.

Based in Mayfield, your role will be to provide effective support relating to the management of the CRN property portfolio typically including coordinating the occupation of non-railway land, the acquisition of land, easements or the registration of positive covenants for project delivery purposes.

Key accountabilities within the role include providing accurate and informed property related assistance and advice to internal stakeholders including coordinating the occupation of non-railway land for the purposes of enabling works, compound and/or access; ensuring all legal obligations are met with regards to insurances, public indemnity, site contamination, access and remediation, including the  coordinating the acquisition, easement and/or registration of positive covenants for new/existing underground infrastructure, if required and in accordance with relevant legislation.

You will provide support and guidance regarding all property matters including the closure of level crossings and bridges as required, giving effective liaison across CRN teams to ensure compliance in from a property perspective including with our licences (e.g. EPL) for project delivery.

It is expected you will build strong internal and external stakeholder relationships through positive, proactive and professional communication across numerous parties including RailCorp, TfNSW, NSW Trains , NSW Land Registry Services, government and private third party organisations, lawyers, agents, surveyors, tenants, landowners and the public.

Secure and timely maintenance of all records relating to the property portfolio ensuring contract compliance is a key responsibility.  All duties must be completed in accordance with John Holland policies, procedures, systems and standards.


To succeed in this role, it is expected you will have tertiary qualifications in Property/Project Management disciplines or substantial equivalent commercial experience in property management particularly focused in the Rail industry or a similar transport discipline.

You must demonstrate the ability to work with and communicate effectively with numerous different stakeholders across the business, demonstrating a high level of negotiation, influencing, problem resolution and interpersonal skills particularly with government agencies, external parties and the public.

Key to the role is a thorough understanding of and the ability to apply legislation, procedures and guidelines with respect to Rail, Heritage, WHS and Conveyancing legislation and a solid appreciation of the unique dynamics of the rail industry, rail safety compliance.
