Project Description
John Holland is progressing the development of Stage 1A of the multi-stage Beveridge Intermodal Freight Terminal (BIFT) project, a pivotal development set to transform the logistics landscape in Victoria, Australia. This initial phase marks the beginning of a journey towards creating a state-of-the-art facility that will streamline the movement of goods across the nation and beyond.
Strategically located to harness the full potential of its proximity to key transport links, BIFT is poised to deliver unparalleled efficiencies in the distribution of freight. With the latest advancements in logistics technology at its core, Stage 1A lays the groundwork for a hub of innovation, ensuring that cargo is moved with unprecedented speed and precision.
With John Holland's proven track record and meticulous approach, Stage 1A of the BIFT project is a testament to the company's dedication to excellence. As the project progresses, each subsequent stage will build upon the last, culminating in a world-class intermodal freight terminal that will serve as a cornerstone for Australia's future in global trade.
Responsibilities of the role include / What you will do;
• Develop detailed understanding of local rail network rolling stock standards and registration processes.
• Assess compliance of rolling stock with technical specifications, applicable legislation, approvals, and relevant standards and JHG risk management process.
• Ensure Plant design specifications, modifications and configuration changes are managed and are subject to Modification Management Change (MMC), Notification of Change (NoC to ONRSR – Regulator) & validation and approval of change.
• Conduct & maintain the records of assessment activities including certification status and any qualifications, following up on matters including compliance and reassessment.
• Develop specifications and undertake minor design; monitor and recommend changes to design details to increase productivity and/or safety.
• Manage implementation of assigned technical modifications, commissioning and engineering documentation for plant and equipment.
• Analyse and use document and record management systems and project performance and compliance reporting.
• Exercise professional judgement in developing & resolving engineering issues, ie. methods, design, engineering procedures, etc.
• Apply a risk-based approach to plant design & control in accordance with relevant Legislation/Regulators, Codes of Practise, Australian Standards, technical and engineering standards.
• Apply the John Holland Rolling Stock acceptance process for owned and 3rd party Rail Plant as detailed in the IMS procedures.
• Compliance and defect investigation & reporting.
• Undertake quantitative and qualitative safety, risk assessment contributing to the decision process regarding the suitability of rolling-stock and other on track plant and equipment.
• Demonstrate people management skills by being able to manage work and performance to achieve desired outcomes.
• Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems, reporting and procedures.
To be successful in this key role, you must have / What we are looking for;
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics).
Eligible for Professional Engineer Membership grade.
Project Management in Engineering, Science, Building, Construction or equivalent.
Meet eligibility requirements for Chartered Engineering Status.
Experience
Relevant work experience demonstrating capacity to effectively contribute to team objectives within a corporate framework.
Advanced oral and written communication skills.
Project Engineer with Rail, Defence, Construction or Mining maintenance experience
Demonstrated Tier 1 engineering experience on-site based with an established understanding of rolling stock.
Established approach to engineering and risk.
Appreciation of rail safety and technical requirements, governance and risks impacting the performance of various rolling-stock within different rail systems.
Project wide level planning, development, and review of complex projects.
Written, verbal and presentation skills eg. facilitating meetings, preparing concise reports of activities and findings.
Delivery of minor projects to program and budget specifications.
Effective time management skills including sequencing of work of own and resource management.
Advanced skills in relevant computer software packages, Microsoft Suite.
