We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Power & Electrical Engineer to join our Rail Infrastructure team based in Seven Hills. Reporting to the Rail Manager, the role will support our Rail Infrastructure Services business as well as John Hollands Major Projects. 

 

As our projects are spread across the East Coast of Australia, we are looking for people able to travel to support our  portfolio of works as part of the role.

 

Initially this role will support our Hunter - Central Coast Renewable Energy Zone (HCC REZ) project. The HCC REZ involves upgrading the existing electricity network and construction of two new substations to allow connections to a range of renewable energy sources and will be a significant enabler for the Hunter region’s clean energy future. The delivery solution minimises the impact on the community and environment while delivering the capacity to transfer more than 1 GW of renewable energy. 

 

The successful candidate will provide onsite engineering services and technical support to ensure our programme of works is completed on time and within  budget. For this role there will be a requirement for nightshift as well as weekend work. Applicants must have strong people skills dealing with both colleagues and stakeholders.

 

Responsibilities of the role include:

-Encourage the Project’s vision, purpose, ways of working, values, mindsets, and behaviours.
-Coordinate and administer construction engineering activities to ensure that projects are implemented in accordance with plans, designs and specifications
-Mentor and coach direct reports both technically and operationally to support development and effective management of work on site
-Direct and supervise on-site construction activities, ensuring adherence to project specifications and safety standards. Conduct detailed inspections, identify deviations, and initiate corrective actions
-Cultivate strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and project contributors, effectively addressing concerns and fostering a collaborative environment.
-Champion health and safety compliance, leading by example to promote a safe working environment. Conduct safety inspections and promptly manage safety-related issues.
-Provide high-level technical guidance to the project team, evaluate engineering designs, and resolve complex issues, while advising on advanced construction methodologies.
-Assist in the production of detailed forecast Cost to Complete and project reports.
-Ensure concise and timely contribution to weekly and monthly reports for Project works.
-Identify and assist in the management of Contract variations, including the identification of possible variations or changes to scope.

To be successful in this key role, you must have:

-Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Science, Building Construction, Construction Management or equivalent
-Minimum 2 years’ experience in either Rail (Power & Electrical) or High Voltage Energy Sectors
-Experience throughout the full project lifecycle is essential,
-Estimating experience is highly desirable
-Strong understanding of HV/MV/LV distribution systems, protection, control equipment, and SCADA.
-Proven capability in reading and implementing electrical drawings, design documents, and technical specifications in a construction environment,
-Confident leader with the ability to guide contractors, ensure quality outcomes, and maintain strong working relationships,
-Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
-Strong communication and stakeholder management skills,
