About the Role

We have a unique opportunity available for a front-end Senior Legal Counsel to join us on a parental leave contract due to end in August 2022.  This role will see you supporting our Major Projects business group providing contract and construction legal advice throughout the tender phase. 
We are flexible for this role to be based out of our Melbourne or Sydney office.

 

Your key tasks will include (but not limited to):

  • Direct and manage the business group’s legal activities to protect its interests. 
  • Provide independent legal advice and recommendations across a breadth of works within the business group to ensure that any commercial arrangement and risk management is acceptable, particularly with reference to the John Holland required Corporate Limits of Liability Guidelines and applicable legislation. 
  • Negotiate, draft and settle all major contracts, leases, loan agreements, securities and other commercial arrangements.
  • Review legal aspects of contracts to protect the interests of the organisation and the business group/region.
  • Liaise with government officials, departments or tribunals on matters affecting activities within the business group.

 

To be successful in this role, you will have the following:

  • Graduate qualifications in Law. 
  • Current Australian Practicing Certificate.
  • Minimum 8 years post-qualification experience.
  • Experience as a practicing lawyer in construction, engineering, resources, or transport industries with majority of experience in providing contract and construction legal advice.
  • Experience in corporate and commercial litigation, arbitration, mediation, adjudications etc.
  • Experience in tenders and associated activities.
