About the Role

 

Assist in preparations and negotiate with sub-contractors for the calling of quotations and letting of contracts and provide contract administration services to assist in the project’s control of contract costs

 

This site-based role will support the commercial team on our regional project - Queensland Train Manufacturing Program in Hervey Bay. 

Responsibilities of the role include;

 

  • Draft scopes of works and tender packages to accompany requests for quotations issued to subcontractors for projects.
  • Conduct initial investigations with subcontractors to clarify the organisation’s conditions relating to contracts for prospective projects.
  • Manage and drive the review process to ensure the award of all subcontractors within the required time frame and budget.
  • Maintain a register of subcontractors.
  • Operate and maintain commercial and contract systems including Project Costs Reporting (PCR), Asset Registers, Commercial Pack database and Contract Sum.
  • Minimise all subcontractor variation claims and elimination of claims where possible.
  • Ensure cost forecasting for allocated subcontracts and cost codes are accurately maintained and keep project management teams abreast of any cost's issues immediately upon identification.
  • Interpret specifications and drawings so as to understand scope of works for the project at Head Contract and Subcontract scope level.
  • Assess commercial and contractual risks involved in delivery and implementation of projects and identify and implement controls.
  • Check compliance and prepare reporting on commercial performance of the contract.
  • Process and recommend progress claims for work completed and refer disputed claims by subcontractors to the relevant manager for decision.

What we are looking for;

 

Experience

 

  • Demonstrated experience as a Contracts Administrator or Quantity Surveyor in the construction and engineering industry. ­
  • Experience in all stages of subcontract management, including scope preparation, procurement, cost forecasting, subcontractor management, claims/variations management, completion and close out.
  • Experience with a variety of project values and complexity, including large, technically complex works packages.
  • ­Knowledge and understanding of industry market conditions and movements.
  • ­Demonstrated ability to manage commercial negotiations.
  • ­Awareness and compliance with document control and records management procedures.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Economics, Quantity Surveying, Law, Commerce or equivalent. 
  • Post graduate qualifications e.g. graduate certificate, graduate diploma in Commerce, Accounting, Business, Construction, Property, Quantity Surveying, Law or other associated disciplines.
