About the Role / Are you up for the challenge?

 

As a Civil Project Engineer on the Inland Rail Beveridge to Albury Tranche 2 (B2A) Project, you will play a critical role in delivering one of Australia’s most significant rail infrastructure projects.

 

You will work closely with a highly skilled team to ensure the seamless planning, coordination, and execution of works. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact while developing your career with one of Australia’s leading construction companies.

 

This is a unique opportunity to apply your engineering expertise in a complex, brownfield environment that requires innovative problem-solving and collaboration. The project involves challenging staging requirements and coordination across two rail operators (ARTC and V/Line), making it a highly dynamic and rewarding position for an experienced and adaptable professional.

 

Project Description

 

Inland Rail is transforming how goods are moved around Australia, connecting Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This 1,700km fast freight backbone will complete our national freight network – better connecting producers to markets and creating new opportunities for regional businesses, industries and communities.

 

The Beveridge to Albury (B2A) project is the Victorian portion of the program undertaken along approximately 305 kms of existing northeast rail corridor between Beveridge and Albury. B2A is staged in two tranches. Tranche 1 includes enhancement works across four sites and corridor wide works.

 

Tranche 2 works will be delivered by John Holland and includes adjustment of track alignments, the provision of new road overbridges and station modifications to enable the safe operation of double-stack freight trains across eight B2A project sites between Wandong and Benalla. 

 

Responsibilities of the role include / What you will do;

 

Overall responsibility for the role on this high-profile major project includes:

  • Manage and oversee the delivery of road bridge and civil works, ensuring high-quality outcomes and adherence to project timelines.
  • Plan and coordinate critical staging for traffic switches related to bridge demolition works.
  • Supervise and collaborate with self-perform teams to execute bulk earthworks, drainage, pavements, retaining walls, and other civil structures.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and project specifications.
  • Monitor and manage subcontractor performance as required.
  • Prepare and review construction methodologies, risk assessments, and project documentation.
  • Conduct site inspections and address technical issues to maintain project efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Project Engineer and wider team to ensure seamless project delivery.

 

To be successful in this key role, you must have / What we are looking for;

 

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in civil road and bridge construction, including bulk earthworks, drainage, retaining wall structures, pavements, and landscaping.
  • Strong understanding of traffic management and staging for critical works.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with a proactive approach to collaboration.
  • A commitment to safety, quality, and delivering exceptional outcomes.
  • Relevant certifications in construction and safety (desirable).
