John Holland is a market leader in the Rail sector across New Zealand and Australia and are currently recruiting for the following skill-sets and roles:

 

 

Traction Line Mechanic

The position of Traction Line Mechanic is required to Install, repair and maintain overhead lines used in OHLE railway systems; tasks may include but are not limited to:

 

  • Installation of new and demolition of redundant Traction power structures.
  • Install, maintain, dismantle and repair overhead traction powerlines.
  • Ability to work independently following detailed designs.
  • Operating plant and equipment associated with the installation and maintenance of the OHLE network.
  • Installing and commissioning switchgear and OHLE equipment.
  • A sound knowledge & application of workplace health & safety regulations.
  • Ability to work autonomously & in a team environment.
  • Strong focus and ability to work within a brownfields rail environment.
  • Complete appropriate quality paperwork upon completion of works.

 

 

Qualifications/ experience:

 

  • Registered with the Electrical Workers registration Board — and have a current practising licence
  • Completed a Traction Line Mechanic competence–based training programme and obtained the relevant approved National Certificate or New Zealand Certificate
  • Minimum of 2 years working within the OHLE rail industry.
  • Kiwi Rail authorised and inducted (desirable).
  • Valid pole top rescue.
  • Track Protection Basic Machine (Hi-rail).
  • Valid working at heights competency. (inclusive harness training).
  • Basic rigging experience and qualifications.
  • Valid first aid certificate.
  • Class 4 licence.
  • HV/ LV switching experience/ qualification within a DC or AC network (highly desirable).

 

Preference will be given to local New Zealand talent. However we will consider EOI’s from international candidates if you meet key aspects of the above requirements and are looking to relocate to New Zealand on a permanent basis.

 

Electrical worker- Rail

 

John Holland are also looking to offer suitably skilled individuals for an opportunity to join the rail industry in a fast-tracked upskilling program. This program is focused on identifying suitable talent and skills that complement the Traction Line Mechanic skill set in order to train you to the required competency level to fulfil the above-mentioned role, as well as other related roles.

 

We are looking for people who have previously obtained one or more of the trade certificates, tickets or significant experience (5+ years) in the below fields;

 

Relevant Role descriptions:

  • Electrical worker
  • Electrician
  • Distribution Linesman
  • Transmission Linesman
  • Rigger
  • Substation maintainer
  • Experienced electrical trades assistant
  • Electrical trade related apprentice

 

Relevant Qualifications/ experience:

 

  • New Zealand Certificate in Electrical Engineering Theory and Practice (Trade) (level 4) or equivalent
  • Distribution line mechanic with New Zealand Certificate in Electricity Supply (Line Mechanic Distribution) (level 4) or equivalent
  • Transmission line mechanic with National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Line Mechanic Transmission) or equivalent
  • Substation Maintainer competency-based training programme that incorporates the New Zealand Certificate in Electricity Supply Substation Maintenance (Level 4) or equivalent
  • HV/ LV switching experience/ qualification within a DC or AC network (highly desirable)
  • EWRB registered apprentices
  • EWRB registered trade assistants
  • Authorised riggers
  • Working at heights certificate/ Harness training
  • Valid in date Pole top rescue training
  • Track Protection Basic Machine (Hi-rail).
  • EWP certificate
  • Experience working within a brownfield rail environment
  • Class 4 licence
  • Experienced crane/ hi-ab operator
  • Dogman
