Civil Engineer - Plant Logistics

Date: 17 Sept 2026

Location: Adelaide, SA, AU, 5000

Company: John Holland

The Project

The consortium of John Holland, Bouygues Construction, Arcadis Australia, Jacobs and Ventia has been selected to build South Australia's biggest-ever road infrastructure project. In partnership with the South Australian Government, this consortium forms the Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Alliance.

The Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Alliance, will deliver the final 10.5km section of the North-South Corridor, forming a continuous 78 km, non-stop, traffic light-free motorway, and contributing to a long-lasting legacy for the community and people of Adelaide.

The T2D Project involves constructing two separate tunnels – the Southern Tunnels and the Northern Tunnels connected by an open motorway, with a combined total distance of 10.5km, open to traffic in 2031.  The T2D project comprises the tunnels, surface works including road and bridge construction in addition to services buildings and complex mechanical and electrical infrastructure. The T2D Alliance is committed to providing opportunities for local people, Aboriginal workers, apprentices, trainees, and job seekers who are long-term unemployed and offers people an incredible opportunity to be a part of an iconic project.

The role

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to gain hands-on experience working on a complex, high-profile tunnelling project while developing strong technical and project management skills.

Working closely with the construction, engineering, and plant teams, you will help coordinate the movement, availability and utilisation of critical plant and equipment across the project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning and coordination of plant and equipment logistics across the project site.
  • Coordinate plant movements, access requirements, laydown areas, and work fronts.
  • Maintain plant schedules, registers, and utilisation records.
  • Work with supervisors, engineers, and plant operators to ensure equipment is available where and when required.
  • Assist with daily and weekly construction planning and logistics coordination.
  • Identify potential plant clashes, access constraints and logistical issues and assist in developing practical solutions.
  • Support the implementation of safe and efficient traffic and plant movement plans.
  • Assist with construction methodology, temporary works, and site logistics planning.
  • Monitor plant productivity and provide information to support project reporting and planning.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, schedules, reports, and registers.
  • Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal project teams to coordinate plant requirements.
  • Participate in site inspections, coordination meetings, and project planning activities.

About you

We are looking for someone who is practical, organised, and keen to develop their career in major infrastructure and tunnelling.

You will ideally have:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 1–3 years’ experience in civil construction, infrastructure, mining, tunnelling, or a related environment.
  • A strong interest in construction methodology, plant, and site logistics.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with both engineering and construction teams.
  • A willingness to spend time on site and engage directly with supervisors and plant personnel.
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • A proactive approach and willingness to learn in a fast-paced project environment.

Previous tunnelling or major-project experience is advantageous but not essential. We are particularly interested in engineers who enjoy the practical side of construction and want to build their experience in complex project delivery.
