The Project
The consortium of John Holland, Bouygues Construction, Arcadis Australia, Jacobs and Ventia has been selected to build South Australia's biggest-ever road infrastructure project. In partnership with the South Australian Government, this consortium forms the Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Alliance.
The Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Alliance, will deliver the final 10.5km section of the North-South Corridor, forming a continuous 78 km, non-stop, traffic light-free motorway, and contributing to a long-lasting legacy for the community and people of Adelaide.
The T2D Project involves constructing two separate tunnels – the Southern Tunnels and the Northern Tunnels connected by an open motorway, with a combined total distance of 10.5km, open to traffic in 2031. The T2D project comprises the tunnels, surface works including road and bridge construction in addition to services buildings and complex mechanical and electrical infrastructure. The Role
Reporting to the Environmental Manager, you’ll provide specialist environmental leadership, advice and support across the project.
You’ll work closely with construction teams, project leaders, technical specialists, contractors, regulators and community stakeholders to identify environmental risks, develop practical solutions and ensure environmental requirements are embedded into day-to-day delivery.
No two days will look the same. From reviewing environmental monitoring and leading incident investigations to working with delivery teams on emerging risks, your expertise will have a direct impact on how the project is delivered.
Responsibilites
- Lead the implementation and ongoing improvement of environmental management systems, plans and procedures.
- Provide trusted specialist advice to project teams and leaders on environmental risks, obligations and mitigation strategies.
- Oversee environmental inspections, audits and monitoring programs covering areas such as dust, water, noise, vibration and biodiversity.
- Lead and support environmental incident investigations, corrective actions and lessons learned.
- Build strong working relationships with regulators, auditors, clients, contractors and community stakeholders.
- Monitor and report on environmental KPIs, approvals, compliance obligations and project performance.
- Provide environmental input into project planning, design and construction activities.
- Review environmental data and prepare clear, accurate and meaningful reports for project leadership and clients.
- Support environmental training, inductions and awareness initiatives across the workforce.
- Mentor and develop Environment Advisors and Coordinators, helping build capability across the wider team.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and drive practical environmental initiatives across the project.
- Promote a strong environmental culture where everyone understands their role in protecting the environment and delivering the project responsibly.
About You
- Experienced environmental professional with a background in major construction, infrastructure or tunnelling projects.
- 5+ years’ experience in environmental management, with strong practical site-based knowledge.
- Strong understanding of environmental legislation, approvals, compliance and management systems.
- Proven ability to provide practical, commercially minded environmental advice in a fast-paced project environment.
- Confident working with construction teams, contractors, regulators, clients and community stakeholders.
- Strong capability across environmental inspections, monitoring, audits, incident investigations and corrective actions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence outcomes across all levels of a project.
- A collaborative approach to mentoring, coaching and developing environmental team members.
- Proactive mindset with a genuine focus on continuous improvement, innovation and achieving better environmental outcomes.
