The Project:
The consortium of John Holland, Bouygues Construction, Arcadis Australia, Jacobs and Ventia has been selected to build South Australia's biggest-ever road infrastructure project. In partnership with the South Australian Government, this consortium forms the Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Alliance.
The Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Alliance, will deliver the final 10.5km section of the North-South Corridor, forming a continuous 78 km, non-stop, traffic light-free motorway, and contributing to a long-lasting legacy for the community and people of Adelaide.
The T2D Project involves constructing two separate tunnels – the Southern Tunnels and the Northern Tunnels connected by an open motorway, with a combined total distance of 10.5km, open to traffic in 2031. The T2D project comprises the tunnels, surface works including road and bridge construction in addition to services buildings and complex mechanical and electrical infrastructure. The T2D Alliance is committed to providing opportunities for local people, Aboriginal workers, apprentices, trainees and job seekers who are long-term unemployed and offers people an incredible opportunity to be a part of an iconic project.
The Role:
As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will lead and advance technical excellence in geotechnical design and construction support.
You will play a key role in shaping project strategy, managing geotechnical risks, and ensuring the seamless integration of complex design solutions across tunnelling, retaining structures, ground improvement, and foundation systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and review geotechnical analyses, reports, and designs to ensure technical excellence
- Manage site investigations, monitoring programs, and assess geotechnical risks
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate geotechnical solutions into broader project delivery
- Provide technical advice to project leadership and stakeholders, including participation in engagement activities
- Mentor junior engineers and graduates towards achieving Chartered Engineering Status
- Be a champion of safety, sustainability, and quality within a geotechnical team
- Integrate and cooperate with construction and design teams
About You:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline, with 10–15 years of experience as a Geotechnical Engineer or Engineering Geologist, preferably on large infrastructure projects
- Proven expertise in managing in project management including temporary works, and subsurface and groundwater investigations
- Skilled in logging pile, excavation, and drilling soil samples, as well as conducting groundwater assessments
- Experience calculating and assessing ground bearing pressures for various plant and structures
- Strong ability to assess and interpret geotechnical design drawings and technical reports
- Knowledge of contamination assessment for soil and groundwater
- A team player, flexible and willing to learn new skills
