The Project
The consortium of John Holland, Bouygues Construction, Arcadis Australia, Jacobs and Ventia has been selected to build South Australia's biggest-ever road infrastructure project. In partnership with the South Australian Government, this consortium forms the Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Alliance.
The Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Alliance, will deliver the final 10.5km section of the North-South Corridor, forming a continuous 78 km, non-stop, traffic light-free motorway, and contributing to a long-lasting legacy for the community and people of Adelaide.
The T2D Project involves constructing two separate tunnels – the Southern Tunnels and the Northern Tunnels connected by an open motorway, with a combined total distance of 10.5km, open to traffic in 2031. The T2D project comprises the tunnels, surface works including road and bridge construction in addition to services buildings and complex mechanical and electrical infrastructure. The T2D Alliance is committed to providing opportunities for local people, Aboriginal workers, apprentices, trainees and job seekers who are long-term unemployed and offers people an incredible opportunity to be a part of an iconic project.
The Role
The Senior Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all construction activities, materials, and deliverables meet the required quality standards, specifications, and statutory regulations. This role oversees site-based quality management systems, provides technical guidance on compliance, and drives continuous improvement in construction processes. Acting as a quality leader within the project team, the Senior Quality Engineer ensures that the project is delivered safely, defect-free, and in accordance with client expectations.
Key accountabilities
Overall :
- Implement and monitor the Quality Management System on the project, inspection and test plans (ITPs), and quality control procedures.
- Conduct inspections, audits, and surveillance of construction activities to ensure compliance with IFC drawings, specifications, codes, and standards.
- Oversee defect management processes, ensuring timely rectification and sign-off.
- Prepare and maintain quality documentation for client and regulatory approval.
- Support and lead project quality audits, both internal and external.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to embed quality requirements into planning and delivery.
- Review and approve material submittals, method statements, and construction procedures.
- Ensure subcontractors and suppliers meet contractual quality obligations.
- Act as a point of contact for the client on quality matters, ensuring issues are addressed proactively.
- Provide regular quality performance reports, dashboards, and compliance documentation to the client and project leadership team.
- Build strong relationships with inspectors, consultants, and regulatory authorities.
Specific responsabilities :
- Provide advice and support the Quality Manager and Project Quality Representative for the development, implementation, review, and revision of the Quality Management Plan (QMP) and Asset Completion and Handover Plan.
- Onboard project personnel to the project's quality and completion requirements.
- Review and endorse any Quality Assurance/Control documentation including ITPs and their related checklists.
- Assist the team with Hold and Witness Point requests to ensure compliance with approved ITPs.
- Identify and investigate any non-conforming work, ensuring it is appropriately reported and documented.
- Audit supplier/subcontractors as required.
- Carry regular quality inspections / process control verification audits to monitor team’s compliance with requirements (minimum one a month).
- Oversee the identification, closeout, and reporting of punch list items and defects.
- Support the Quality Manager in the preparation of monthly summary reports.
- Maintain the system of calibration of measuring and monitoring equipment.
- Promote quality awareness with project personnel.
- Oversee preparation of Construction / commissioning Works Packages for quality and completion records
- Participate in final works inspections and manage stakeholder queries alongside construction leads.
- Report on the progress of report completion and punch/ defect closure.
About you
Experience :
- Tertiary Qualification or Diploma/Degree in Electrical Engineering
- At least 10 years’ experience minimum in an identical role within the construction industry.
- 5 years’ experience minimum in an identical role within the construction industry, in major projects
- Sound knowledge of Quality Management processes.
- Skills in monitoring, reviewing, reporting, auditing management procedures and processes, and continuous improvement on performance and compliance.
- Development of Inspection and Test Plans, Inspection and test quality checklist and Work Instructions a
- Understanding or ability to interpret technical specifications.
Specialisation :
- Strong background and good working knowledge of Microsoft Systems (Excel, Visio, Word & PowerPoint).
- All round knowledge of all Mechanical and Electrical systems
- Proficient in the use of Electronic Document Management Systems (Aconex or similar).
- Proficient in the use of Hexagon/Jira/Blue Beam
- Proficient in reading & understanding technical documents.
- Proficient in the preparation of technical procedures and documents.
