The Project

The Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Alliance, will deliver the final 10.5km section of the North-South Corridor, forming a continuous 78 km, non-stop, traffic light-free motorway, and contributing to a long-lasting legacy for the community and people of Adelaide.

 

 The T2D Project involves constructing two separate tunnels – the Southern Tunnels and the Northern Tunnels connected by an open motorway, with a combined total distance of 10.5km, open to traffic in 2031.  The T2D project comprises the tunnels, surface works including road and bridge construction in addition to services buildings and complex mechanical and electrical infrastructure.

The role

T2D will specialise in cutting-edge underground construction methods, including the use of Earth Pressure Balance Tunnel Boring Machines (EPB TBMs).

 

We are beginning to seek to establish our TBM Tunnelling teams in preparation for tunnelling to commence in early 2026 and are seeking expressions of interests from experienced TBM Operators to join our dynamic team.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate the EPB Tunnel Boring Machine in accordance with manufacturer specifications and project requirements
  • Monitor TBM parameters (face pressure, torque, thrust, spoil removal, etc.) to ensure safe and efficient tunnelling
  • Coordinate with shift engineers, segment erectors, and mucking personnel to maintain continuous operations
  • Diagnose and report technical issues with the machine or support systems
  • Follow all safety regulations and environmental controls
  • Maintain accurate shift logs and reports
  • Participate in daily toolbox talks and safety briefings
  • Ensure proper handover between shifts

Requirements

  • Solid experience operating TBMs
  • Strong understanding of TBM operational systems including hydraulics, electrics, and PLC interfaces
  • Ability to read and interpret tunnelling data, instrumentation, and geological reports
  • Must be safety-conscious and able to work in a team
  • Flexibility to work in shifts and rotational schedules
  • Valid certifications for confined space, working at heights, and first aid are a plus
