The Project:
The consortium of John Holland, Bouygues Construction, Arcadis Australia, Jacobs and Ventia has been selected to build South Australia's biggest-ever road infrastructure project. In partnership with the South Australian Government, this consortium forms the Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Alliance.
The Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Alliance, will deliver the final 10.5km section of the North-South Corridor, forming a continuous 78 km, non-stop, traffic light-free motorway, and contributing to a long-lasting legacy for the community and people of Adelaide.
The T2D Project involves constructing two separate tunnels – the Southern Tunnels and the Northern Tunnels connected by an open motorway, with a combined total distance of 10.5km, open to traffic in 2031. The T2D project comprises the tunnels, surface works including road and bridge construction in addition to services buildings and complex mechanical and electrical infrastructure. The T2D Alliance is committed to providing opportunities for local people, Aboriginal workers, apprentices, trainees and job seekers who are long-term unemployed and offers people an incredible opportunity to be a part of an iconic project.
The Role:
Reporting to the M&E Director, the Testing and Commissioning Manager, and is responsible for the overall commissioning plan, program and budget.
The T&C Manager leads the transition from construction to operation, verifying that all systems function correctly individually and together (system integration).This role ensures the tunnel is safe, efficient, and ready for public use.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure all T&C activities comply with road authority standards, safety regulations, and environmental requirements, specifically focusing on life safety systems.
- Manage and provide direction to a team of commissioning engineers, technicians, and vendor representatives
- Coordinate with design engineers, construction teams, subcontractors, and external stakeholders (e.g., fire services, road authorities) to resolve interface issues.
- Develop and implement the overarching T&C Strategy, commissioning management plans, and detailed, logic-linked schedules (e.g., Primavera P6) for all sub-systems.
- Manage the testing of complex, interconnected systems, including Tunnel Ventilation Systems (TVS), Lighting, SCADA, Fire Suppression, Drainage, Traffic Management Systems (ITS), and Power Supply.
- Review test procedures (FAT/SAT), verify results, and maintain detailed documentation for Final Acceptance Certificates (FAC) and Operational Readiness. Monitor and report on key T&C performance metrics and Identify opportunities.
- Audit testing documentation to ensure quality assurance and manage risks associated with site testing to minimize downtime and prevent accidents.
- Identify, track, and close out all deficiencies (punch-list items) identified during testing.
About You;
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical, Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline).
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in a senior commissioning role on major, complex, long-tunnel infrastructure projects (road or rail), preferably in Australia.
- Deep understanding of tunnel ventilation, fire safety, and SCADA systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and project management tools like Primavera P6.
