About Inland Rail
Inland Rail is transforming how goods are moved around Australia, connecting Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This 1,700km fast freight backbone will complete our national freight network – better connecting producers to markets and creating new opportunities for regional businesses, industries and communities.

The Illabo to Stockinbingal project is about 39km of new rail corridor located within the local government areas of Junee and Cootamundra-Gundagai. This new section of rail corridor will provide a direct route from east of Illabo, tracking north to Stockinbingal and connecting into the existing Forbes rail line.

 

What is needed?

The Rail Systems Manager is responsible for overseeing the design, integration, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of rail systems to ensure the successful delivery of rail infrastructure projects. The role will require collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure compliance with project requirements, safety standards, and regulatory guidelines, while driving efficiency, innovation, and cost-effectiveness.

 

Key Responsibilities:

-Development and implementation of the track and signalling (rail) construction methodology 
-Provide technical guidance on rail design
-Manage the integration of the Rail Systems with civil, structural, and third-party interfaces
-Manage resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials to achieve program effectively
-Managing the effective delivery of occupations, including the staging of all works being conducted during the possessions
-Responsible for cost forecasting of rail works and management of the R&O relating 
-Working with key stakeholders (internal and external) to ensure timely communication and coordination of works 
-Work with the client to ensure compliance with Standards and Specifications and manage any change requirements
-Ensure that the team meets the project requirements, safety standards, Rail Safety requirements, and operational performance criteria
-Monitoring of progress to schedule, identifying and resolving project risks or issues and realising opportunities
-Manage the procurement requirements for the delivery of the works
-Lead and mentor a team of track and signalling engineers and supervisors, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and safety, and providing technical support and guidance to team members and stakeholders

 

To be the successful candidate:

To succeed in this role, it is essential you are an experienced Rail Systems Specialist, with a track record in developing and implementing high-quality solutions for customers. This will include;

 

Essential: 

-A tertiary engineering qualification in engineering or similar
-A high level of experience in rail construction and staging on major infrastructure projects
-Demonstrated understanding of rail safety standards, regulations, and compliance requirements

 

Skills and competencies:

-Management of multidisciplinary rail construction project teams
-Excellent Project Management and organisational skills
-Experience of P6 or other time chainage software
-Strong interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrate excellent client relationship and stakeholder management
-Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making abilities

Desirable:
-Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or equivalent accreditation
-Experience working within an Australian rail environment and familiarity with Australian standards
-Knowledge of systems engineering principles, including requirements management, verification, and validation

 

Key Relationships:
Internal: Project teams, Engineering teams, Safety teams, Commercial teams
External: Clients, regulatory authorities, contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders

 

Work Environment and Conditions:
Primarily office-based with regular site visits required during the design and mobilisation phase, with a 2:1 roster on site during construction
May involve travel and extended working hours to meet project deadlines

 

About you:
-Experience on complex Rail/Infrastructure projects
-Willing to DIDO
-Be open to working a 2:1 roster (2 weeks on / 1 week off)
-Or, willing to relocate yourself within an hour’s commute of Cootamundra/Stockinbingal.
