About the opportunity
John Holland is expanding significantly to reflect the enormous State and Federal Government investment into the Sunshine Coast over the next 10-15 years.
As part of this growth, we are looking to engage with established Environment Managers to work on major projects spanning Energy, Tunnels, Dams, Water and Transport Infrastructure.
About the position
Reporting to the Project Director and based local to the Sunshine Coast, you will ensure project compliance with relevant environmental legislation, regulations, contractual obligations and John Holland Health, Safety and Environmental procedures through the development, implementation and maintenance a project wide environmental management system.
Responsibilities of the role include
- Coordinate and provide day to day specialist environmental support to internal stakeholders, including Group and Regional Environment teams.
- Develop approval submission documents and implement conditions of approval
- Identification and effective management of environmental risks.
- Develop, manage and lead the continual technical improvement of project environment management systems.
- Proactively liaise with government bodies and professional organisations on environmental matters.
- Establish, monitor and report on key environmental performance objectives and standards for managing project environmental risks.
- Develop and implement project inspection, auditing and review processes.
- Communicate environmental roles and responsibilities, review project team environmental competencies and identify training/development needs.
- Manage environmental budget allocation as required to ensure environmental management is undertaken in a cost effective manner.
- Manage environmental consultants and subcontractors and the collection of environmental field monitoring information.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all relevant legal, regulatory and company environmental requirements, ensuring management and staff are kept informed of any relevant changes to project requirements.
- Manage and support the development of environmental team personnel in leading environmental practices and driving improvement.
- Provide training to staff on environment matters such as spill response, legal and other requirements.
- Assist in recruitment of environmental staff.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of John Holland environmental management systems.
- Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems and procedures.
To be successful in this role, you will have
- Bachelor Degree in Environmental Engineering, Science, Sustainability or other associated disciplines
- Post graduate qualifications advantageous, e.g. graduate certificate or graduate diploma in Environmental, Risk, Sustainability, Project Management or other associated disciplines.
- Construction environment management experience (5+ years)
- Generalist Environment & Approvals experience (5+ years)
- Knowledge of Federal, State and Local environmental statutes and legislation
- Knowledge of relevant management systems (quality and risk)
- Training and facilitation experience in high-risk environmental activities such as spill response
- Skill in quantitative and qualitative environmental risk assessment and development of risk controls and actions involved in delivery and implementation of projects.
- Skills in monitoring, reviewing, investigative review techniques, reporting and continuous improvement on performance, compliance and defects and/or non-conformance
- Expert understanding of incident investigations and reporting
- Ability to lead high level investigations involving multiple internal and external parties.
