About the Role

 

We are looking for a Project Engineer to join our North East Link - Hoddle to Burke project.


The Eastern Hoddle Bourke Alliance (EHBA) is made up of John Holland, Seymour Whyte and design partners Mott MacDonald and Jacobs Group, in partnership with MRPV. The scope of works includes upgrading six kilometres of the Freeway with new traffic lanes, bridge upgrades and urban noise walls, a dedicated busway (fully segregated from mainline traffic), and a new bridge over the Yarra River.

 

The NEL Project involves the design and construction of the upgrade of the Eastern Freeway from Hoddle Street in the west to Burke Road in the east, including:

 

  • 6km of brownfield freeway widening to accommodate additional traffic lanes in each direction
  • 3km dedicated busway separated from mainline traffic
  • Significant structures including 600m of bridges, including a 180m architectural steel shared use path bridge of the Yarra River
  • Freeway-wide scope including ITS, retaining walls, stormwater drainage, noise walls, lighting and signage

 

Role Responsibilities

 

The Project Engineer leads the coordination, management and delivery of design, procurement and construction activities for a defined scope of works, ensuring time, cost, quality, safety, environmental and contractual objectives are achieved. The role is central to site delivery, working closely with the superintendent, supervisors and subcontractors to forward plan, procure and execute works in line with the project programme, staging and delivery strategy, while upholding EHBA’s safety, environmental and quality values.

 

  • Plan and manage short and long term construction activities, including programming, procurement and start up planning for allocated works.
  • Identify and support Head Contract variations, including changes to scope.
  • Ensure effective application of project commercial procedures and purchase order controls.
  • Ensure material, plant and subcontractor registers are accurately maintained to produce monthly accruals and assist in control of the budget and forecasting.
  • Provide technical support to the construction team through strong knowledge of specifications and requirements.
  • Review design documentation to ensure clarity, compliance and suitability for construction.
  • Develop and support engineers by setting clear expectations, identifying development needs and providing performance feedback.
  • Develop better ways to deliver the works, including improved construction methodologies, alternate design and material selection, cost savings and efficiency gains, ensuring implementation where appropriate
  • Develop and maintain construction documentation, including CMS, site coordination plans, Safe Work Method Statements and lot allocations, in accordance with the Project QA system.
  • Close out all defects within the timeframe of Practical Completion nominated in the Project Quality Plan

 

About You

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, science or a related discipline. 
  • Significant experience in an engineering/project delivery role, including Project Engineer responsibilities.
  • Proven experience delivering projects valued over $10M.
  • Strong understanding of project management frameworks, specifications, standards and accountabilities.
  • Working knowledge of design, quality, safety and environmental management plans.
  • Sound pre contracts knowledge, including design, planning and legislative requirements.
