About Inland Rail

Inland Rail is transforming how goods are moved around Australia, connecting Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This 1,700km fast freight backbone will complete our national freight network – better connecting producers to markets and creating new opportunities for regional businesses, industries and communities.
 
The Illabo to Stockinbingal project is about 39km of new rail corridor located within the local government areas of Junee and Cootamundra-Gundagai. This new section of rail corridor will provide a direct route from east of Illabo, tracking north to Stockinbingal and connecting into the existing Forbes rail line.

 

What is needed?

We are currently looking for an experienced Finance Manager to work on our newly awarded Illabo to Stockinbingal project (I2S). This role would be predominantly based in Sydney, but some site visits would be required.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Formulate and administer approved general accounting practices to ensure accounting, financial and operating reports accurately reflect the conditions of the project and provide reliable information for control and management purposes.
  • Ensure activities related to the function comply with relevant Acts, national and state regulatory frameworks, legal demands, systems and ethical standards
  • Ensure strong contract, commercial and financial risk management, accurate forecasting of both costs and revenue, take corrective action in line with authority and reporting frameworks and maximise the profit margin for the project.
  • Prepare and direct the completion of the project monthly financial reporting requirements ensuring compliance with John holland requirements.
  • Direct and review the analysis and interpretation of statistical and accounting information for use in management and decision making.
  • Compile and review monthly project reports and KPI’s.
  • Establish and develop a high-performance team to ensure the project has the capability to achieve targets.
  • Maintain a regular review of income and expenditure to ensure cash flow is adequate to meet future business needs.
  • Promote a culture of business excellence within the finance and administration function through governance, accountability, innovation, transparency and reporting against all established performance objectives
  • Work collaboratively with all support functions ensuring that consultation and notification occurs when matters arise which relate to these functions at all times. 
  • Compile information for company internal and external auditors as required.
  • Build strong stakeholder management through positive, proactive and professional communication to keep key personnel informed.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems and procedures.

Qualifications:   

  • CPA or equivalent tertiary accounting qualification.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a Business, Commerce/Statistics or relevant discipline.

        
Key Experience required:    

  • 8-10 years accounting experience and/or experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with staff at all levels.
  • Highly developed computer skills with advanced knowledge of MS excel.

 

Desired experience:

  • Experience in Finance function on projects or within a corporate environment and/or project experience.
  • Experience in rail and construction industry or major industrial organisation or adjacent sectors to construction.
