About The Project

 

The Northern Hospital Redevelopment is valued at approximately $500 million and is being undertaken for the Victorian Health Building Authority within the health sector. The scope of work includes the demolition of the existing structure, construction of a new building, and refurbishment of the main hospital building. Stage 2 of the project will deliver a new Emergency Department (ED) and Inpatient Unit (IPU) tower. The Emergency Department will feature a Resuscitation Zone, adult and paediatric Short Stay Unit, Emergency Observation Unit, and Inpatient Unit, enhancing healthcare capabilities and services.

About The Role

 

Coordinate and administer construction engineering activities to ensure hospital-related projects are implemented in accordance with plans, designs, and specifications, while meeting the specific requirements of healthcare environments.
Assist with the preparation of site construction budgets and reports, ensuring alignment with hospital project goals and compliance with healthcare standards.
Monitor construction progress for adherence to programme and report to the Site Manager or Project Manager, ensuring any hospital-specific challenges are effectively managed.
Interpret designs for implementation in construction projects, particularly focusing on healthcare facility layouts, medical infrastructure, and hospital compliance requirements.
Contribute to improvements to existing designs, incorporating innovative solutions to enhance healthcare functionality and patient care environments.
Arrange and oversee the letting of tenders, ensuring contractors are experienced in hospital construction and refurbishment.
Demonstrate financial management skills and commercial acumen when making decisions, particularly in managing costs associated with specialised hospital facilities and equipment.
Assign work and assist with reviews for accuracy and adherence to required standards, including compliance with healthcare construction codes and safety requirements.
Execute working knowledge of contractual obligations and legislation relevant to hospital construction projects, including healthcare-specific building standards and accreditation requirements.
Undertake quantitative and qualitative safety, environment, and quality risk assessments to ensure acceptable quality of structures and finishes, with a focus on healthcare settings, infection control, and patient safety.
Analyse and use document and record management, progress and project performance reporting, and compliance reporting, ensuring hospital-specific requirements are met.
Demonstrate sound people management skills by managing work and performance of subcontractors to achieve outcomes tailored to healthcare construction needs.
Utilise effective time management skills, including sequencing of work and resource time management, ensuring hospital facilities are delivered to meet critical operational deadlines.
Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems, reporting, and procedures, with additional emphasis on healthcare project standards and client expectations.

 

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

 

Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Economics, Quantity Surveying, Law, Commerce, or equivalent.
Demonstrated site-based experience with a Tier 1/2 head contractor in Australia, particularly in hospital construction or refurbishment projects.
Familiarity with healthcare-specific regulations, standards, and design requirements.
