About the Project

 

John Holland has been named as the preferred contractor to deliver the North-East Link, Hoddle St to Bourke Road package of works. The Eastern Hoddle Bourke Alliance (EHBA) is made up of John Holland, Seymour Whyte and design partners Mott MacDonald and Jacobs Group, in partnership with MRPV.


The scope of works includes upgrading six kilometres of the Freeway with new traffic lanes, bridge upgrades and urban noise walls, a dedicated busway (fully segregated from mainline traffic), and a new bridge over the Yarra River.


The NEL Project involves the design and construction of the upgrade of the Eastern Freeway from Hoddle Street in the west to Burke Road in the east, including:

6km of brownfield freeway widening to accommodate additional traffic lanes in each direction
3km dedicated busway separated from mainline traffic
Significant structures including 600m of bridges, including a 180m architectural steel shared use path bridge of the Yarra River
Freeway-wide scope including ITS, retaining walls, stormwater drainage, noise walls, lighting and signage

Site location to be around Chandler Highway / Eastern Freeway interchange.

About the Role

 

Coordinate on-site engineering functions for allocated projects to achieve time and budget objectives and provide efficient support for construction activities.

What you will do;

 

  • Manage on-site engineering functions through subordinates, which may include Project Engineers, and/or Cost/Planning Engineers.
  • Obtain relevant design parameter information for incorporation into detailed designs and construction specifications.  
  • Monitor quality and quantities of incoming equipment and material, check work drawings, construction and specifications against site plans and conditions and arrange corrections or modifications where necessary. 
  • Coordinate the activities of an engineering team, programme work loads and provide technical and administrative guidance to the engineering staff to ensure aims and objectives are effectively and economically achieved.
  • Ensure that project engineering completion is on time and within budget. Record completed work, costs incurred, materials used and retain progress drawings.
  • Accurate forecasts of costs and revenue and utilise corrective action in line with JH’s authority and reporting frameworks to maximise the profit margin.
  • Assign work and assist with reviews for accuracy and adherence to required standards of supplier, subcontractor quotations/purchase orders as well as subcontractor arrangements.
  • Participate in planning future requirements including machine tools, ancillary equipment, major plant and labour. Direct site surveys and preparatory work prior to construction. 
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and planning authorities to ensure satisfactory completion of structures and construction work 

What we are looking for;

 

Qualification:

 

Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Science, Building Construction, or equivalent. 

Diploma of Project Management in Engineering Science, Building, Construction or equivalent.  

 

Experience:

 

­Demonstrated site based delivery experience in a Tier 1/2 environment. 

Advanced commercial acumen including cost reduction and meeting budgets. 

Delivery of major projects and teams to program and budget specifications.

Understanding of the Quality Management plan, Safety Management Plan, Environmental Management Plan and Projects Design Management Plan. 

Excellent client relationship and stakeholder management.
